The Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking a cardiothoracic surgeon at the rank of Assistant Professor to join the cardiothoracic surgery program at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, a major BCM hospital affiliate. Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center has a long-standing cardiothoracic surgery program with an emphasis on excellence in clinical care, education, and research. This program is one of the largest volume cardiac programs in the VA system and one of a very few to include a ventricular assist device and on-site heart transplant program. The MEDVAMC program is also supported by an on-site surgical health services research group.Ideally located in the heart of the world's largest medical center, our 250-faculty member department works at iconic institutions, including the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, the Texas Heart Institute, the Texas Children's Hospital, Ben Taub General Hospital, and the MEDVAMC. We are ranked 13th in the nation by USNWR for departments of surgery. The program continues to be an international leader within the VA system for heart transplant and cardiothoracic surgery.Ideal candidates will have a record of clinical excellence in cardiothoracic surgery to perform the full spectrum of operations including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, aortic surgery, transcatheter procedures, and general thoracic surgery. Candidates with a focus in thoracic oncology will be highly considered. Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching medical students, surgery residents, and cardiothoracic surgery fellows. The ideal candidate will also develop innovative research in basic/translational or data sciences.Minimum Qualifications

ABTS board certification or board eligibility is required, and the candidate must qualify for a full and unrestricted Texas medical license.
