If you are unsure as to whether or not you meet the qualifications of this position, please contact us to discuss your application.What you will do!You will serve as a Senior Project Manager during site investigation, feasibility study, design, construction, and operation phases of cleanup at hazardous substance cleanup sites, with an emphasis on complex hydrogeology sites. You will be responsible for evaluation of the risks to groundwater and surface water posed by contaminated properties. You will serve as a technical expert in the cleanup program to determine the accuracy and adequacy of environmental investigation, cleanup, and monitoring plans. You will provide expert project management for complex sites, and may occasionally provide policy support. In addition, you will have overall project responsibility to ensure that contaminated sites are evaluated and remediated in a manner that is cost-effective, timely, and protective of public health and the environment.What are we looking for?Minimum Qualifications for Natural Resource Specialist 4 - Hydrogeologist:Bachelor’s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related field, AND 4 years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field (an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable).At least 1 year of experience at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.Current registration as an Oregon Professional Geologist.Minimum Qualifications for Natural Resource Specialist 4 (non-Hydrogeologist):Bachelor’s degree in physical science, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related field, AND 4 years of experience in a natural resource or environmental field (an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable).At least 1 year of experience at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities.The underfill option is available to you if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Natural Resource Specialist 4 - Hydrogeologist upon hire. In order to retain this appointment, you must be able to meet the minimum qualifications for the Natural Resource Specialist 4 - Hydrogeologist by obtaining your registration as an Oregon Professional Geologist within 3 years of employment.Working Conditions:This position will be based out of DEQ’s Northwest Region office in Portland, however, the successful candidate may be eligible for hybrid work. The logistics of hybrid work will need to be worked out with the Hiring Manager prior to your hire and may be changed at any time given specific job duties and business needs. DEQ will provide necessary hardware (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and cell phone) for an employee to successfully work from home. At DEQ sites, you will have access to a workspace, however, it may be shared with other employees.This position requires occasional statewide travel by car for site visits, meetings, conferences, trainings, public hearings, public meetings, seminars, and workshops, some of which may involve extended work hours, overnight stays, and/or weekend work. Fieldwork may include air, soil, soil gas, and groundwater sampling; supervising monitoring well construction or beneficial water well use survey; supervising reconnaissance or drilling for sampling; and other remedial investigatory or removal work.How to Apply:External Applicants
