Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for Political Science Adjunct Instructor Positions for Academic Year 2024-2025. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to assist in further development of the UNT Dallas Department of History and Political Science. UNT Dallas offers faculty the unique opportunity to help shape the character of a 21st century, learner-focused, urban comprehensive university.

The number of vacancies is dependent on student enrollment, division needs, and dean approval. Your application cannot be considered until all the required documents have been received.

Adjunct faculty plans classes and implements and evaluates teaching/learning objectives and student learning outcomes in conjunction with the Program Coordinator. Adjunct faculty undertakes the divisional and professional responsibilities of a part-time faculty member, including office hours. The successful applicant will be expected to provide instruction for lower-division Political Science courses, including American Government I (National), American Government II (State), Introduction to Political Science, Introduction to Public Policy, Political Theory, Democratic Theory, and various other political science courses. Most courses are offered in the afternoons and evenings.

Adjunct faculty members may be required to use certain texts and meet certain parameters set by the Department of History and Political Science. Adjunct instructors will also be required to include, in their courses, certain student assessment measures determined by the department, and to compile data on those assessment criteria.

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree in Political Science with outstanding teaching experience in teaching foundational-level Political Science courses, OR,

A master’s degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in Political Science with outstanding teaching experience in teaching lower-level Political Science courses.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Political Science or Ph.D./Ed.D. in Political Science, or equivalent, including 18 graduate hours in Political Science.

Successful experience teaching adults in a post-secondary institution.

Successful career in public education.

Excellent communication skills in multicultural settings.
