The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Latin and Classical Studies. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position beginning August 2024.

The successful candidate will teach a 3-3 load including beginning and intermediate Latin, mythology, and classical literature in translation. The candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda. We especially seek a colleague who can think broadly about the value of Classical Studies for students across a wide range of majors.Minimum education and experience requirements:PhD in Classics or a related field

Note : Applicants who are ABD for the terminal degree may be considered; however, the doctoral degree must be obtained within the first academic year of employment.Experience teaching Latin.Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching.An active research program in Classics or related field.Demonstrate the ability to think broadly about the value of Classical Studies for students across a wide range of majors.Prior to the official appointment to the university, the candidate(s) selected for hire must be able to demonstrate eligibility to teach assigned courses by successfully meeting the credentialing requirements based on official transcripts and other documentation as required.
