Summary
The Safety Manager’s primary functions are to provide technical safety and health support to production and corporate personnel, develop corporate safety & health programs and objectives, coordinate safety training programs, monitor safety and health regulations and provide technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with Federal and State safety and health regulations, eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations which may lead to human injury and/or property damage. Ensure the development, implementation and updating of required written safety and health programs and plans.
Supervisory Responsibilities
There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position but will be working closely with other company personnel (e.g. Human Resources, Dept. Managers, Dept. Supervisors, Leads).
Essential Functions
OSHA
Maintain OSHA log
Submit OSHA log to state
Complete OSHA accident investigation report
DOT
Maintain DOT DQ files
DOT- random drug/alcohol testing
DOT-driver exams/licenses
Maintain DOT vehicle compliance
Injury/ Workers Comp
Schedule injury appointments- complete treatment authorization
Submit Workers Comp claim, complete earning schedule etc.
Complete Workers Comp accident investigation report for employee injury
Review and enforce safety violations
Track and file work related injuries
Safety Committee
Perform weekly walk throughs/inspections throughout the plant
Facilitate monthly internal safety meetings to make sure we are compliant throughout the organization
Review plant Safety Committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports
Follow up with Safety Committee members to review if there are any issues/concerns to report
Other Essential Functions
Maintain/ create new written programs/policies as needed
Be familiar with tools, machines and equipment used within the workplace
Maintain first response training records for First Aid and CPR
Direct flu shot clinic, annual audiogram testing and emergency evacuation drills
Conduct new hire safety orientation with assistance of HR
Maintain and update SDS Sheets
Promote safety and health awareness - posters, flyers etc.
Work with department heads and HR to establish job hazards
Air quality testing
Create and maintain hazardous waste records
Maintaining safety library- training videos, manuals
Keep employees up to date on safety training
Perform other tasks assigned by manager
Skills and Qualifications
Bilingual preferred but not required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Demonstrates broad knowledge of state and federal safety guidelines for the workplace
Exhibits knowledge of appropriate emergency protocols
Possesses knowledge of legal repercussions of workplace accidents
Able to read and interpret dense legal and federal OSHA documents
Demonstrates familiarity with job site machinery and products
Education and Experience
Associate’s degree or equivalent required
Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Safety Management, or related field is preferred
Previous work experience in the health and safety field is preferred
ISO and Quality Management Systems knowledge preferred
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Salary Range: $70,000-$90,000 based on skills, experience and education.
