Senior Application Scientist

to join our team and support the Flavors business in North America. This position is a key member of the Sensient team, where you will be required to collaborate at our onsite Hoffman Estates location five days per week.The

Senior Application Scientist

independently develops innovative applications in support of existing and new business growth opportunities for Sensient's Savory Flavors business. The candidate needs to have a strong technical background and experience in soups, sauces, dressings, and plant protein (Vegan) applications is preferred.What you will do:Conduct hands-on evaluation and development on bench 50-75% of the time; manage multiple projects and tasks with changing priorities; recognize problems, gather and interpret significant data to find creative solutions to complex issues. Recommend new solutions for customer requests where appropriate through familiarity with Sensient product catalog and databases.Execute experiments and is skilled in operating pilot plant equipment such as retort, microthermic, spray dryer, and others.Effectively communicate new features and benefits of Sensient's Savory products through presentations to customers, sales, and internal management. Manage multitask projects and lead cross-functional teams.Enter and maintain accurate and thorough records of work, including project status, formulations, process instructions, flavor evaluations, flavor and application libraries, and supporting documents such as customer technical data sheets, nutrition facts, shipment documentation, and others as required.Collaborate with groups such as Creative, Sensory, Analytical, Purchasing, Quality, Regulatory, Production, Marketing, Sales, and other department teams to ensure product development meets benchmarks.Serve as a technical resource for customers and internal teams. Travel to support customer projects, demos, production, or to participate in trade shows or continuing education.Communicate effectively to keep Account Manager, Customer, and Applications Manager apprised of project status. Ensure that projects are complete, timely submissions are made, and manage expectations.Expand technical and professional knowledge through collaboration with internal teams, mentors, and customer interaction. Attend professional development seminars, trade shows, or technical workshops as agreed on by Applications Manager.Assist in developing the technical ability of R&D Staff through coaching, feedback, and joint project assignments. Participate in training visitors (sales, affiliates, new hires).Assist in maintaining a safe and professional environment; comply with government and company safety directives.What you will bring:Master's Degree or BS in Food Science or related technical area required; Master’s Degree preferred.Five to seven years’ experience in the food industry with a clear background in product development.Experience in managing direct reports required.Demonstrated understanding of food ingredients, processing, and flavor application with expertise in key industry market products and ability to accurately formulate finished food products.Thorough understanding of the trends within the flavor industry.Experience and knowledge in the technical and scientific areas of the flavor industry.Excellent organoleptic skills and knowledge of sensory language required. Must be competent to deliver formal presentations.
