About the Position

NAU School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS) is seeking to fill an Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning position. We are especially interested in candidates with research foci in core AI areas like AI/ML algorithms and/or theory, but candidates with a strong computer science background and research in applied AI are also encouraged to apply. This position is a 9 month tenure track position.

Responsibilities Include:

Successful candidates are expected to carry out groundbreaking research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning, as well as teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in SICCS's Computer Science and Informatics programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned BS in Computer Science or closely related area.

An earned doctoral (Ph.D. or Sc.D.) degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning or closely related area by August 18, 2024.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Traditional Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning algorithms

Hardware-implemented AI/ML, Edge AI, AI for Internet-of-Things applications

Reinforcement Learning algorithms

Established research in core AI theory and development of novel algorithms or techniques.

Successful track record making fundamental contributions to the field of AI as evidenced by publications in relevant conferences and journals.

Demonstrated interest in engaging with and leading collaborative multi- and inter-disciplinary teams.

University-level teaching and mentorship experience, particularly at the graduate level.

Excellent communication skills.

Experience effectively working with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds and underrepresented communities.

Demonstrated willingness and ability to teach courses in-person and online in a university setting.

Compensation & Benefits:

Commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience. FLSA Status:

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
