The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Asst AD- Compliance. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world's premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top-10 public universities in the nation. UC San Diego Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence, sponsors 23 varsity sports, and is entering the third year of transition to NCAA Division I as a member of the Big West Conference.Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director - Compliance, the Assistant Athletics Director - Compliance is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all NCAA compliance matters for a subset of sports. The incumbent monitors processes and systems to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. The incumbent uses initiative and experience to resolve issues pertaining to the comprehensive compliance program and works closely with coaches, scholar-athletes, administrators, and institutional staff members in an effort to build relationships and promote the compliance program.The Assistant Athletic Director - Compliance routinely analyzes situations, identifies recommendations, initiates action, and provides guidance on all matters pertaining to their duties. The incumbent will frequently coordinate meetings, disseminate information, and provide instruction to various internal and external constituencies. The incumbent will provide pertinent and timely compliance information to various internal and external constituencies, responding to questions, and interpreting rules and regulations.The Assistant Athletic Director - Compliance uses ethics and compliance concepts. Applies campus policies and procedures to evaluate a variety of ethics and/or compliance issues. Responsible for conducting and documenting complex assignments where analysis of situations and data requires the review and interpretation of a variety of factors.The Assistant Athletic Director - Compliance will work with specific sports that will be determined upon arrival. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for specific areas of the compliance program based on experience and expertise.The Assistant Athletic Director - Compliance will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms. Assures an effective compliance program including strategies to reduce risk and emphasize early detection of potential NCAA, conference, and University rules violations.QUALIFICATIONSAdvanced knowledge and skills to analyze, interpret, and review NCAA procedures to enhance monitoring of NCAA legislative compliance.Advanced knowledge of NCAA D1 rules and regulations related to academic eligibility, recruiting, amateurism, playing and practice seasons, and financial aid, among others.Ability to organize and manage information into coherent, accessible and efficient format. Demonstrated skill in organizing, prioritizing and maintaining diverse workload, establishing and meeting goals and deadlines, and independently following tasks through to completion.Ability to develop, implement and disseminate training materials with an advanced understanding of NCAA D1 bylaws, while effectively tailoring materials to respective audiences (student-athletes, coaches, parents, faculty, alumni, donors), utilizing varied styles of presentation, including oral, visual, written and interactive.Highly effective written and verbal communication skills. Skills in seeking more information and asking questions when assignments are unclear.Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with diverse clientele, using a high degree of confidence, initiative, tact, diplomacy, flexibility, patience and discretion in dealing with a diverse population of students, parents, staff, supporters, campus administrators, faculty and the general public. Ability to interact effectively with others, with an affinity for networking and collaboration, while focusing on the pursuit of departmental objectives.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with tact and diplomacy.Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in group settings.Problem-solving skills; multi-task, work with frequent interruptions, and effective listener. Proven ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret data and provide appropriate response utilizing campus/department resources for report preparation and correspondence, and implementation of policies and procedures.Experience working with NCAA Division I rules and experience providing interpretations and preparing waivers.Ability to follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. General knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion, including the complexities of the intersections of identities including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, and class background.Experience in implementing and awarding athletics scholarships. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of athletically related aid awarded by Intercollegiate Athletics by sport, and by other categories. Ability to act as a liaison between the coaching staff, students, and parents with the Financial Aid Office.Knowledge of NCAA name, image, and likeness (NIL) legislation. Ability to review and provide guidance on NIL contracts in terms of NCAA legislation. Ability to stay up to date and knowledgeable on state and federal legislation pertaining to NIL and NCAA matters.Advanced knowledge utilizing Microsoft Excel and Access.SPECIAL CONDITIONSMust be able to work periodic evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be willing to travel to out-of-town meetings.A background check and DMV check is required; a valid driver's license is required. Must also participate in the DMV Pull program and maintain a clean DMV record.Must maintain NCAA certified recruiter status. Must maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification.This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).This position is a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.To apply:
