Position Overview

Responsible to provide excellence in teaching through the fulfillment of the mission and strategic goals of the School of Education.

What will I do in this position?

Essential job responsibilities include but are limited to:Provide leadership for the Elementary Education teacher licensure program leading to licensure in the field of Elementary Education Grades K-6.

Serve as the Elementary Education program coordinator by providing leadership in the areas of curriculum, admission and retention of students, advising, budget planning, faculty recruitment and retention, program development, and assessment.

Assist Director of Field Experience in developing cooperating school partnerships in support of the Elementary Education program.

Teach undergraduate courses in Elementary undergraduate teacher licensure program in areas such as curriculum, assessment, reading and language arts methods, and possibly other related areas.

Teach other courses in the School of Education commensurate with departmental needs and individual expertise.

Provide supervision of Elementary Education teacher education candidates within public and private schools.

Attend School of Education and full faculty meetings on a regular basis.

Collaborate with other faculty in curriculum and course development, including course and program assessment, for undergraduate teacher licensure programs.

Advise Elementary Education majors, fulfilling assigned departmental duties, engaging with students during office hours, attending department/faculty meetings and convocations and other functions as requested by the Assistant Dean, Assistant Vice Provost, or Provost.

Attend commencements, serve on committees, and be actively involved with professional organizations.

Act as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ by actively partnering with the University to disciple students in growing intellectually and spiritually.

Secondary job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist with the ongoing evaluation and development of the School of Education programs.

Attend School of Education events as requested.

Perform duties as assigned.

What will it take to succeed in this position?

Minimum Education and Experience:

Master’s or Doctorate degree in Education required.

Minimum of three years of successful Elementary teaching or supervision experience at the K-6 level required.

Advanced preparation in the teaching of reading preferred.

An active body of professional/creative activities in the area of Elementary Education preferred.

Desire to engage in scholarly research including the integration of education and Christianity preferred.

Experience in supervising student teachers or teacher licensure candidates preferred.

Experience with the national edTPA assessment for student teachers preferred.

Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ; serve as a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintain a kind, Christ-like attitude in dealing with and ministering to people.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to maintain a flexible schedule.

Ability to integrate Christian worldview into classroom instruction.

Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional, kind, and tactful manner.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to engage with and deliver information to a variety of learning styles.

Strong organizational and problem solving skills.

Ability to incorporate technology into the elementary education classroom.

Ability to provide own transportation for supervision in area schools is essential.

Basic computer proficiency with ability to use a computer to carry out job responsibilities.

Commitment to excellence in teaching and academic advising of undergraduate students.

Commitment to the growth and development of School of Education programs.

Commitment to collaborating with other School of Education faculty in providing instructional excellence for students.

Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment.
