About the Role

Develops and maintains Environmental Health & Safety programs, policies and procedures for Everett, Scranton, and Sacramento preclinical sites, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. Partners with EH&S department in Columbia on program responsibilities which may include biosafety, environmental health, hazardous materials, radiation safety, employee safety and occupational health, training, and hazardous waste management.

What You’ll do Here

Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.

Train employees on safety protocols and procedures to promote a culture of safety and compliance.

Investigate and report on any incidents, accidents, or near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Collaborate with department managers and employees to address safety concerns and develop effective solutions.

Review of safety, handling and disposal requirements for study test articles.

Stay up to date on all relevant EHS regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

Manage and maintain all necessary EHS documentation, including incident reports, training records, and safety data sheets.

Conduct risk assessments and develop risk management plans to mitigate potential hazards.

Communicate regularly with management and relevant stakeholders on EHS performance and progress towards goals.

Lead and facilitate safety committees and meetings to promote employee engagement and involvement in EHS initiatives.

Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess and improve EHS performance.

Oversee and manage EH&S Contractors for biomedical waste, chemical waste.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field, or combination of education and experience to fulfill essential job responsibilities.

4+ years’ experience working in environmental/occupational health and safety or related field. Prefer experience in a biomedical research/preclinical environment.

Holds certificate or meets eligibility requirements for Associate Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, or other related certification.

The ability to use Microsoft Office at a proficient level.

Ability to read and interpret technical documents and industry specific manuals. Ability to write advanced reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

The ability to use basic math and algebra skills.

Continual GLP training. Maintains current training in 49 CFR 172 Subpart H, 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(8) and WAC 173-303. Additional training may be required as necessary to carry out responsibilities of position.

Ability to function independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team. Ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment. Ability to successfully operate independently with minimal guidelines. Strong planning and organizational skills. Proven presentation and facilitation skills. Ability to maintain compliance with all aspects of EH&S state and Federal regulations with minimal supervision and oversight.

Effective program management skills.

What We OfferThe salary range estimated for this position is $84,570.92 - $112,761. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
