Job OverviewThe Principal will define the vision and mission of the school, provide strong educational leadership to ensure high standards of instruction; ensure compliance with FBISD district policies and perform related district-wide administrative duties as required and/or assigned.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership and School Management

Assume administrative responsibility and instructional leadership for the campus

Develop, review, revise, and continuously update the Campus Improvement Plan each year, with the assistance of the Campus Based Leadership Team

Demonstrate thorough understanding of state and federal accountability systems

Implement, communicate, and monitor Response to Intervention expectations to staff, parents, and students

Direct the development and implementation of campus specific staff development

Oversee and monitor a structured discipline management

School/Community Relations

Analyze and interpret available data to address needs of school and community

Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and other system administrators to share information, develop plans, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive culture and climate

Establish techniques to ensure parent and community involvement

Personnel Management

Interview, select, evaluate, and grow high quality school staff

Recommend to the Superintendent/Asst. Superintendent decisions regarding termination, suspension, transfer, promotion, renewal or non-renewal of employees assigned to the campus

Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the public

Fiscal, Administrative and Facility Management

Oversee expenditures, maintain fiscal control based on documented program needs, and accurately report financial information

Manage the use of and coordinate the maintenance of school facilities and grounds to ensure a clean, orderly and safe learning environment

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities for the faculty and staff of the assigned campus in accordance with the District’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualification Requirements

Master's Degree

Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification

Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) certificate or its equivalent Instructional Leadership Development (ILD or ILT) or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership

Board Approved T-TESS Certification or must be obtained within 3 months of start date as designated by the Department of School Leadership

Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience as an assistant principal, associate principal or dean of instruction

Minimum of 2 years of successful classroom teaching experience

Possesses a moral and ethical compass

Demonstrates a heart and passion for leadership

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness

Ability to manage personnel

Ability to coordinate campus functions

Ability to implement policy and procedures

Ability to interpret data

Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.

Additional Information

Travel may be required to attend district and/or state meetings and conferences and school-related events.
