Comply with the BRPT Standards of Conduct.Maintain current CPR or BCLS certification.Two years of clinical experience in an accredited sleep center, or three years experience in an allied health field.Skills:Perform 12-20 channel Polysomnographic studies (Sleep Studies).Patient hook-up and education.Monitoring patient sleep patterns and sleep disorders.Recognize sleep stages, cardiac and respiratory events.Perform CPAP and BIPAP titration for sleep disorder breathing.Perform sleep studies on infants to adult patients.Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.Benefits:Career Pathways to Promote Professional Growth and Development.Discounted Parking.Wellness Program Savings Plan.Retirement Options with Company Match.JOB SUMMARYA Polysomnographic Technologist works under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Manager and the Medical Director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technician and may provide oversight of other staff.RESPONSIBILITIESEssential FunctionsDemonstrates a commitment to the mission of Swedish Covenant Hospital, demonstrating a service orientation and adhering to all responsibilities and standards of the Hospital.Evaluate the needs of patients and the level of patient understanding of testing procedures.Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs and determine final testing parameters in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director.Complete and verify documentation.Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient.Perform pretest preparation procedures on all Sleep Center testing equipment.Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing.Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards.Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals.Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.Perform all variations of Polysomnographic testing protocols and patient treatment therapies.Follow procedural protocols to ensure the collection of appropriate data.Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality.Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events.Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic intervention.Perform data analysis for all patient age groups and report generation.Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.PATIENT CARE/AGE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONSThis position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated.RESPONSIBILITYComply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.Knowledge of infection control, universal precaution.Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance.Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory.Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTSExtensive patient contact, may be in contact with patient's relatives and friends.Frequent contact with co-workers, staff physicians, researchers, and personnel in other departments.ENVIRONMENTSitting: 60%Standing/Walking: 40%May be required to move or lift equipment and linens.Repetitive tasks include data entry and video monitoring.Exposure to chemical vapors and infectious agents including blood-borne pathogens.ACCESS TO PROTECTED HEALTH INFORMATIONName, Demographic, Financial and Clinical.Computer system access is assigned based on manager's access level request.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this classification.
