Job Description:Summary:Barr is seeking a water and wastewater engineer to join its Minneapolis office. This person will undertake challenging and progressive work focused on water and wastewater treatment facilities for industrial and municipal clients. Project responsibilities may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with mass balance calculations; bench testing of physical, chemical, or biological treatment unit operations; operation of pilot treatment systems; conceptual and detailed engineering including plans and specifications for construction of treatment systems; installation and startup of new systems; evaluation and troubleshooting of existing systems; and preparation of technical reports. Fieldwork opportunities may require some out-of-town travel.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related fieldAcademic coursework directly related to the job responsibilities described aboveMinimum GPA of 3.0/4.0Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain certification within one yearStrong technical skills in a wide range of analysis and design related to water and wastewater engineeringStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clientsWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (up to 20% travel and fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship, now or in the futurePossession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving recordPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering or a related fieldExperience in a laboratory setting including bench-scale testingExperience with engineering plans and specifications, equipment selection, and cost estimatingSound understanding of water chemistry and environmental microbiologyAbility to apply knowledge and experience to creatively solve complex problems with loosely defined inputsA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office.NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
