Oversees safety department of 4 companies, primarily in South Dakota and Iowa.DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIESPlans, implements, and coordinates safety program to reduce or eliminate occupational illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.Identifies and appraises conditions which could produce accidents and financial losses and evaluates potential extent of injuries.Conducts or directs research studies to identify hazards and evaluate loss producing potential of given system, operation or process.Develops accident-prevention and loss control systems and programs.Leads supervisor safety meetings. Assists in leading the CI Team meetings.Coordinates safety activities of unit managers to ensure implementation of safety activities throughout the organization.Be support for field managers in the area of safety.Compiles, analyzes, and interprets statistical data and prepares reports for information from personnel concerned in accidents.Maintains liaison with outside organizations to assure information exchange and mutual assistance.Devises methods to evaluate safety program and conducts or directs evaluations.Evaluates technical and scientific publications concerned with safety management and participates in activities of related organizations to update knowledge of safety program developments.Leads incident investigations and incident reviews.May store and retrieve statistical data using a computer.Strives to reduce accidents and injuries by keeping them to a minimum by providing better communication, training, and enforcement. To minimize fines from OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and FRA by continuously improving our compliance.Keeps abreast of new laws pertaining to the industry. Maintaining a working atmosphere with regulating agencies and continuing to invite these agencies to our training sessions.Interprets laws, new and old, and uses these laws in communication, training, and enforcement.Keeps involved with governing agencies at ground level on new laws. To voice opinion and concern about new regulations.Notifies and trains all employees using approved safety policies by administering and enforcing safety policies.Manages the Risk Management program.Analyzes all loss runs for accidents, injuries, fines, and employee/agency satisfaction.After analyzing all loss runs for accidents, injuries, fines, and employee/agency satisfaction, corrects any problem areas.Compares benchmarks; monitors inspections, OSHA inspections, MSHA inspections, public safety complaints, and insurance.Analyzes and measures reduction of accidents, injuries, fines, and employee/agency satisfaction. All must reduce with exception to future purchases and proper staffing. Meets KRC safety goals.Communicates effectively (verbal, listening, written) and works with difficult people under high-stress situations. Self-motivated, team player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.Troubleshoots and problem solves situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.). Monitors and discusses production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with other departments, including HR and Management, and maintaining them over time.Responsible for supervision of safety department in South Dakota and Iowa.Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and minimum five years related experience and/or training, orEquivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT and FRA policies are a plus.Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record under Company policy.Strong leadership skills.
