The Librarian II is responsible for developing, preserving, and promoting rare book collections at TCU to faculty, students, staff, and the general public.Duties & Essential Job Functions:Builds the department’s rare book collections by selecting and purchasing material in multiple formats (manuscripts, maps, books, etc.) that align with collection development policy and support TCU’s curriculum.Creates accurate and detailed bibliographic records for rare books and special collections material.Supports use of TCU rare book collections by working directly with students, faculty, staff, and researchers; provides reference services.Partners with reference liaisons to identify opportunities to promote these collections in support of the curriculum; demonstrates interpersonal skills and a strong customer service approach.Promotes the access and use of rare book collections to the university community and the public through outreach events, social media posts, and library instruction sessions. Curates displays and exhibits (physical and online) highlighting rare book collections.Ensures preservation of special collections materials by developing guidelines and practices for handling and storage; monitors environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and light levels in storage areas. Assists the director and dean with building security for special collections material.Assists the director in developing relationships with donors, accepting gifts, and maintaining donor records.Supervises one or two non-exempt library employees and some TCU students.Contributes to the overall operation of the library by participating on committees; develops reports, attends meetings; maintains skills with professional development activities; works effectively with colleagues in a team-based environment.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Education & Experience:Masters in Library Science/Information Science (ALA Accredited)3 years library experience including 1 year in a supervisory capacityExperience with rare book collections (can be concurrent)Salary information:Minimum starting salary is $51,300.
