Federal Work Study Program

(FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students in order to assist them with postsecondary financial needs. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) complies with the Department of Education’s regulations regarding the FWS program and allows students to benefit from this opportunity.The FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.FWS jobs are available in areas such as academic departments, laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers, and several off-campus locations.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist Student Financial Aid Advisor in performing outreach activities, such as Resource Fairs, financial literacy, Financial Aid events, and campus-related events.Assist students with project-related duties.Assist in the completion of financial aid applications and public benefits processes.Peer Financial Counselors are expected to become adept at learning and understanding financial aid programs and public benefit options that may be available to meet a wide range of student needs.Peer Financial Counselor will also serve any community members looking to get information on applying for financial aid or wrap-around services.QUALIFICATIONS:GPA of 2.0Consistently maintain 6 credit hours each semesterEnrolled in a degree programMaintain satisfactory academic progressAdhere to college’s confidentiality policySuccessfully pass background/drug screeningAbove average skills in interacting with people and assisting with online applicationsExcellent skills in making students feel comfortable about discussing personal, private informationAbility to prioritize student service experiencesELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United StatesApplicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of ChicagoApplicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit semester hoursApplicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificateApplicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictionsApplicants must not be current full or part-time employees of the City Colleges of ChicagoAll positions are “employment at-will”MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of ChicagoKnowledge of City Colleges of ChicagoExcellent oral communication skillsExcellent customer service skillsPromotes a positive role model and favorable public image as City Colleges of ChicagoAdheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Services Excellence StandardsExcellent interpersonal communication skillsAbility to relate to students from varying educational, cultural, and social backgroundsCity Colleges of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
