We are committed to revolutionizing healthcare through the implementation of advanced data science approaches, conducting cutting-edge data-centric research, and generating real-world evidence to improve patient health outcomes at UW Health and beyond.On a day-to-day basis, the incumbent could expect to engage in the following activities:Acquire, manage, and prepare real-world data for analysisApply NLP techniques to extract relevant information from unstructured data (e.g., notes, reports) from EHR as neededConduct analysis of EHR data to investigate associations between various predictors and health outcomesDevelop/adopt, implement, and validate advanced computational algorithms for disease phenotyping, risk prediction, and treatment effectiveness studiesInterpret and summarize the results of analysis for presentations, scientific reports, and manuscriptsEffectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians and data scientists from other departments/disciplinesKeep abreast of emerging trends and advancements in AI research to propose innovative solutions to healthcare challengesEnsure compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., NIST and HIPAA), when working with health dataResponsibilities:
Contributes to a research agenda set by a lead researcher by preparing data sets, analyzing them using data science techniques, and presenting the results. Plays a leadership role and may lead a team and/or personnel.10% Prepares data sets for analysis including cleaning/quality assurance, transformations, restructuring, and integration of multiple data sources15% Identifies and implements or guides others in implementing appropriate data science techniques to find data patterns and answer research questions chosen by the lead researcher including data visualization, statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining10% Organizes and automates project steps for data preparation and analysis10% Composes and assembles reproducible workflows and reports to clearly articulate patterns to researchers and/or administrators15% Documents approaches to address research questions and contributes to the establishment of reproducible research methodologies and analysis workflows15% Serves as an institutional subject matter expert and liaison to key internal and external stakeholders regarding data science best practices and methodologies and represents the interests of data science5% May supervise the day-to-day activities of staff and resolves routine personnel issues20% Develops and optimizes advanced computational algorithms using Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), regression, and rules-based modelsEducation:
Required: PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or closely related field required. Must be obtained by the start date of the position.Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:Strong foundation in statistics and advanced methods for analyzing health dataStrong knowledge and skills in using analytical software (e.g., R, SQL, Python)A minimum of 4 years of experience in analyzing health data using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) approachesUnderstanding of healthcare systems, workflows, and Electronic Health Records (EHR) data structuresUnderstanding of medical terminology, coding systems (e.g., ICD, CPT, SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm), and healthcare standards (e.g., HL7, FAIR)Excellent communication skills to convey research results to scientific audience and the publicPreferred:Experience working with ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data manipulation tools (e.g., Pandas)Understanding of privacy regulations (e.g., NIST, HIPAA) for working with health dataStrong publication record in reputable journalsAbility to effectively integrate in cross-functional and multi-cultural teamsWork Type:
Full Time: 100%. It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. An on-campus location will be provided should a candidate prefer to work partially or fully onsite.Appointment Type, Duration:
Terminal, 24 month appointment. This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.Salary:
Minimum:
$90,000 ANNUAL (12 months). Depending on Qualifications. The starting salary for the position is $90,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
