Orthopaedic Technician II.WORK SCHEDULEFull-time, 100% FTE (40 hours per week)Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pmPOSITION HIGHLIGHTSConveniently located near public transportationMake a difference for the patients and employees we serveOpportunity to provide career growthDEPARTMENT DESCRIPTIONLocated in the University District, the care team at the Hand, Elbow & Shoulder Center at UWMC-Roosevelt provides comprehensive orthopedic and musculoskeletal care, with the goal of helping you return to normal life activities. Our board-certified specialists have experience treating complex injuries and chronic conditions, including osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. We perform surgery on the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, and minimally invasive shoulder and elbow arthroscopy.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESAssist physician with complex casting, arthroscopic procedures, pin replacement/removal, and external fixator removalMonitor patient's condition following casting; recognize emergent/urgent problems and provide telephone triage for patients with cast problemsPrepare and clean exam roomsOrder Durable Medical Supplies (DME) and maintain inventory and stock per established clinic protocolsRecognize symptoms of common medical illnesses and accurately report to providerAct as a liaison between patient, patient’s family and providersAssist provider with procedures and medical examsEnsure a signed physician order is completed before submitting the patient for an x-ray, remove and apply casts and/or splints, remove sutures as per established clinic ordersAssist in transporting patients as requiredREQUIREMENTSCertification through the National Association of Orthopedic Technologists (NAOT) or Registered Orthopedic Technologist certification through the American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP)Completion of a Medical Assistant course accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) and two years of direct patient care experience OR equivalent education/experienceValid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider CPR cardCommitted to attracting and retaining a diverse staff, the University of Washington will honor your experiences, perspectives and unique identity.
