About the Department

The Section of Genetic Medicine continues to shape the future of personalized medicine with successful research programs focused on the quantitative genetic and genomic science. The Section provides extremely valuable collaborations with investigators in the Department of Medicine who are seeking to develop new and more powerful ways to identify genetic risk factors for common, complex disorders with almost immediate clinical application. The Section of Genetic Medicine conducts impactful investigations focused on quantitative genetics, systems biology and genomics, bioinformatics and computational biology.

Job Summary

The Research Technician will provide technical support for research projects aimed at understanding the landscape of co-transcriptional RNA processing in normal development and in disease conditions. Under general supervision, the Research Technician will perform moderately complex lab and/or research-related duties and tasks.

ResponsibilitiesSetting up and performing experiments.Collects and maintains data and/or specimens.Maintains equipment and supplies.Performs cell culture experiments.Generates next generation sequencing data.Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred QualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted.

Experience:One year relevant research experience.

Preferred CompetenciesKnowledge in relevant scientific field.Knowledge of research techniques or methods relevant to the lab (e.g., RNAseq, ChIPseq, qPCR, cell culture, flow cytometry).Analytical skills.Problem-solving skills.Attention to detail.Organizational skills.Verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
