Job Details

Salary: $22.00 standard

$23.00 - bilingual English/Spanish

$24.00 - NTA certification

(requested by operations only)

Work Location: Sylmar, CA

(In-Person)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:30PM or 1:00PM-5:00PM

Full-time: Medical benefits (

offered to those that complete the 90 probationary period and work no less than 30 hours per quarter)

Part-time: Paid time off. No medical benefits.

We offer paid training and the ability to learn new skills with software, such as Microsoft Teams or Lotus Learning.

You will generally work with the same students daily, so the ability to develop rapport and establish relationships of trust with youth is extremely important. Patience in dealing with youth/adult learners and having the heart of a teacher is an absolute must.

Academic Tutor Job Purpose

Provide a supportive and interactive learning environment that motivates and inspires students to achieve their academic goals. This is done by building rapport, personalizing teaching, and utilizing a range of innovative teaching methods, technology tools, and resources to keep students engaged and interested in the learning process. The in-person tutor will also provide ongoing feedback and support to help students overcome challenges and build confidence in their abilities. Ultimately, the goal is to help students develop critical thinking skills, academic knowledge, and a love of learning that will serve them well in all areas of their lives.

Academic Tutor Job Duties

Work in Juvenile detention/probation center (In-Person)

Assist students to successfully navigate through the StudentNest learning plan

Provide positive reinforcement when students are progressing and meeting expectations, as well as supportive encouragement and instruction when students struggle and possibly fall behind schedule.

Follow all protocols for communication set forth by StudentNest, including timely response to email and text communication during work hours and the timely submission of reports for each student session.

Adhere to our dress code which is business casual.

Be reliable in their attendance around their tutoring schedule and follow company protocols for communicating attendance.

Academic Tutor Required Qualifications

At least one year of tutoring, coaching, teaching, or mentorship experience with teenage youth.

Associate degree or equivalent in college credits. (The formal education requirement can be reduced based on having exceptional experience in teaching and/or tutoring youth).

The ability to utilize standard technology tools such as Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Zoom, etc.

Passage of FBI/DOJ Background check to comply with school district protocols.

The ability to work effectively with students in an in-person learning environment.

Proficiency in written communication for completing student progress reports as well as email communication with other staff and superiors.

Academic Tutor Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of academic tutoring experience.

Bilingual/multilingual (particularly in Spanish)
