The holder of the Endowed Professorship in Neurosurgical Research will be a senior faculty member in the Department of Neurological Surgery whose specialty is in the area of scientific research relevant to neurosurgical patient care and whose distinguished scholarship is nationally recognized.The initial term of the Endowed Professorship in Neurosurgical Research is for five years, with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191).Individuals selected will hold an appointment at a minimum level of 51% in the Department of Neurological Surgery and will be expected to contribute to a culture of collaboration and collegiality both within and beyond the department.The endowment pay out will support the chair's efforts in research, teaching and service and further the mission of the Department of Neurological Surgery and the campus.It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance at least normally through the faculty ranks on the basis of his/her scholarly activities, teaching, University and public service.In addition, as the holder of the Endowed Professorship in Neurosurgical Research you are expected to:Engage in teaching and scholarly activities focused in the area of neurosurgical research.Teach the equivalent of one course a year to the next generation of researchers and clinicians, including medical and graduate students and post-doctoral students and fellows.Conduct research on basic scientific discovery or technology development with the potential for clinical translation into brain-directed therapies likely to improve the outcome of patients with neurosurgical injury or disease. The holder will perform service to the Department of Neurological Surgery and the broader community in which it is situated.Provide leadership in the area of neurosurgical injury or disease and be fully engaged in activities in the Department of Neurological Surgery.Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole.This is not a change in Title opportunity. Basic qualifications

(required at time of application)Must be a current senior faculty in the UC Davis Department of Neurological Surgery at minimum of 51%. To qualify for appointment as the endowed professorship holder, candidates must hold a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine. Successful candidates have interests and demonstrated aptitude/accomplishments in the area of scientific research relevant to neurosurgical patient care and whose distinguished scholarship is nationally recognized.Candidates will be screened for record of research excellence and current faculty status.Additionally, candidates will be reviewed for:Research on basic scientific discovery or technology development with the potential for clinical translation into brain-directed therapies likely to improve the outcome of patients with neurosurgical injury or disease.Ability to provide leadership in the area of neurosurgical injury or disease.Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively in a diverse environment.Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.Application Requirements
