)Adaptive Sports Associate Needed for Spaulding Hospital

SummarySpaulding Adaptive Sports centers (SASC) provides children and adults of all levels of ability the opportunity to live active, healthy lives through participation in a variety of adaptive sports and recreational activities. A variety of land and water activities are offered in both individual and group settings. Spaulding Clinicians and Adaptive Sports professionals help choose activities and make adaptations to meet the capabilities and goals of each individual.The SASC adaptive sports programs include Cape Cod, Boston and North Shore regions. This associate position is directly overseen by a Regional Coordinator and will be a hybrid working model on Cape Cod, remote, and regional hockey locations.Key Responsibilities

Assists operationally and programmatically with regional adaptive sports programs, specifically cycling, tennis, kayaking, outrigger canoeing, and paddle boarding, under the direction of the SASC Boston Coordinator.Review participant intakes to determine program/participant equipment needs for each session. Communicate with clients directly as needed for assessments.Assure equipment is in working condition, set up prior to each programming session, as well break down and pack post session.Load and drive Spaulding vehicles and trailers to various locations of programmingPerforms other duties as assigned.PCC Organizational Values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence are upheld.Education/DegreeRequiredBachelor’s Degree in Health or Adaptive Sports related field including but not limited to: Recreation Therapy (CTRS),, Athletic Training, Adaptive Physical Education, Outdoor Education, Exercise Science/physiology, kinesiology.PreferredUSA Hockey Coaching CredentialsExperienceRequiredPrior experience working with people with disabilitiesPreferredDirect experience in adapted sport programming.Prior experience working with USA HockeyLicensure/CertificationsRequiredValid driver’s license with no driving violationsAmerican Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid, CPR, AEDSkills

(Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)RequiredCPR, First Aid, and AEDKnowledge of adaptive sport basics and ability to gain an understanding of the SASC programmingDemonstrate an ability to attain knowledge of adaptive sports equipment.Solid organizational skills, with the ability to collect waivers and programming fees as necessaryWill participate in training to gain an understanding of general disability awareness to assist with participant’s individual needsDemonstrates a positive, professional demeanorAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesAbility to work with participants of all ages and level of abilities from pediatric to geriatricTravel required as necessaryWillingness to drive Spaulding vehicles and tow equipment to offsite locations as necessaryPreferred:Certified Disability Sport Specialist Certification Level IDirect experience playing and coaching hockey/sled hockeyPersonal or work experience in cycling, and/or water sportsHighly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.High level of service delivery.
