The Pine Hill Mill is a complex, fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility with two machines. The mill includes multiple process lines of wood handling, pulping, power and recovery, and effluent treatment. The scope of the position includes implementing, coordinating, maintaining, and monitoring the progress of environmental programs. The position works within the EHS&S group and reports to the EHS&S Manager.The Job You Will Perform:The Environmental Engineer’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Ensuring that the mill is aligned with corporate initiatives and prioritiesInterfacing directly with state regulatory agencies and community members to represent the mill within the community and regionParticipating in environmental compliance audits and assisting the sites in closing the open action itemsPreparing, reviewing, and updating environmental reportsInteracting with and providing regulatory guidance to mill operations, maintenance, and management personnel on a day-to-day basisManaging day-to-day air activities and providing supervision to hourly team membersWorking with operations and maintenance to prioritize maintenance work and communicate needs back through the maintenance organizationParticipating as a member of EHS&S department; maintaining strong relationships with other business unit personnel as well as operating and maintenance department leadersCoordinating and communicating with operating departments regarding regulatory concerns/support, including periodic training for salaried and hourly teams on environmental compliance as neededWorking with mill engineering and operations to evaluate capital projects for potential permitting needsServing on a weekend duty team for the EHS&S groupProviding environmental outage coordination, both for routine and annual outagesCoordinating annual regulatory air compliance stack testing activitiesFilling in for EHS manager when neededActing as owner’s representative for contractors providing services within EHS&S departmentProviding visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety resultsCompleting safety audits to ensure internal and external resources are complying with safe work practicesReporting and communicating safety and performance measurements against objectivesLeading and delivering results through GMS based systems; assuring compliance with GMS expectationsDeveloping Corrective Actions Plans to address systematic gapsParticipating and leading in the development of Environmental Management System procedures for water, waste, and air managementActively using and improving upon existing systems for managing daily activities, including development of standard operating procedures (SOP)Initiating and facilitating problem solving through trouble-cause-correction processes (TCC)Understanding and promoting Manufacturing Excellence (ME) tools and processes;
