TEMPORARY - Full Time, 12 months (Extension is possible but not guaranteed).Hours:

40 hrs/wk: Monday 4pm – 12am, Thursday 8 am – 4:30 pm. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 12am – 8am. Off Tuesday and Wednesday.General Summary:This position operates under the general supervision of the Electrical Engineers, responsible for operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment at the Electric Station. Additionally, it operates under the general supervision of the Working Meter Foreman, responsible for reading and maintaining a record of readings of utility meters located in various buildings and locations in the Town of Norwood. Promotes and maintains responsive community relations and performs all duties related to the position.Essential Job Functions:General Functions required as Station Operator:Operates primary and secondary switch gear, transformers, and distribution circuits, voltage regulators, and street lighting equipment. Inspects and tests equipment according to established operating and safety procedures.Responds to customer questions, complaints, and inquiries in support of promoting customer relations; initiates corrective action, as required.Performs periodic checks on apparatus, equipment, meters, and charts and maintains all related logs and reports.Cooperates with and assists linemen and supervisors in emergency situations.Keeps station, apparatus, equipment, and grounds clean, painted, orderly, and in good working condition.Basic troubleshooting on the phone of CATV customer’s problems and set up service calls for the cable system. Monitor Cable Television plant for any outages.May respond to after hour emergency outage calls.General Functions required as Meter Reader:Follows established routes; reads residential and commercial meters; records consumption using a reading device; records manual readings as necessary.Observes meters for indications of tampering or vandalism and reports to Supervisor.Estimates electricity consumption for inaccessible meters based on prior usage; turns in reading device at completion of assigned routes.Discontinues and renews utility service; receives payments for renewals.Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Duties require knowledge of meter reading equivalent to completion of a high school diploma and up to one year of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid State of Massachusetts driver’s license. Ability to work without direct supervision and make decisions in the course of carrying out duties and assigned responsibilities. Oral and written communication skills, ability to record data accurately when reading meters.
