Primary Purpose:To promote and maintain a school environment that will ensure the safety and security of district personnel, students, and visitors to district campuses and facilities.Qualifications:High School Diploma or GEDBachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university

Required ; college hours in Criminal Justice recommendedValid Texas driver license; meet and maintain automobile insurance liability eligibilitySchool Resource Officer certification preferredMental Health Officer certification preferredCurrent Texas Peace Officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE); Master Peace Officer certification requiredBondable, as required by Texas Education Code § 37.081Minimum of Fourteen years combined full time law enforcement experienceKnowledge/Skills:Possess an understanding of the Texas Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Texas Family Code and Chapter 37 of the Texas Education CodeAbility to pass required physical, psychiatric, and drug testingAbility to record information and conduct presentations as it relates to Safety and SecurityAbility to follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to work effectively with students and the public at large, exercising sensitivity to special needs childrenAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writingAbility to problem solve, think critically, and manage conflictAbility to think clearly and respond calmly and effectively in escalating situationsWorking knowledge of criminal investigations, police reports, and criminal lawsAbility to successfully complete a one-year probationary period from the date of appointmentComprehensive knowledge of modern leadership philosophies and methods as applied to local law enforcement administrationComprehensive knowledge of department policies and proceduresAbility to manage critical incidentsAbility to analyze complex police problems and to adopt effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard for surrounding hazards / circumstancesEssential Job Functions:Training and ability to subdue offenders, including use of firearms, non-lethal weapons, and handcuffsExhibit a high level of personal integrity and display high ethical standardsOperate a computer to develop databases and do word processingActively monitor interior and exterior of campus for unauthorized personsInstruct in classroom setting (IE: traffic stop education, bullying, dating violence)Respond to calls for service which may include theft, criminal mischief, disturbances, or other disorders on school district sitesConduct initial and follow-up investigations (or assist with same)Assist in developing and implementing school safety programsPromote crime prevention and traffic safety programsKeep informed of and comply with state, district, and campus policies affecting schools, including daily attendance, punctuality, and confidentialityAssist other local law enforcement and fire agencies, as required or requestedAssist school administration with alleged criminal violations committed by students, when requestedRegularly confer with teachers, counselors, campus administrators, and other staff to identify problems and/or suspected criminal behaviorMaintain contact with and act as a liaison to local law enforcement agenciesCompile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and reports required by lawComply with all district routines and regulationsMaintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors, colleagues, students, and parentsProvide traffic control at athletic events, school closings/openings, or as otherwise requiredProvide escorts or accompany students, parents, or district staff, as neededWork effectively and efficiently with a teamAbility to act as a department Public Information OfficerFollow safety and security proceduresOther duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities:Enforce policies, directives, standards and laws of the district and StateResponsible for oversight of sergeants, officers and other staff within the department, including planning daily work assignments, as well as short and long-term scheduling for officersEstablish responsibilities and organize work for officers, as requiredIn the absence of the Chief of Police, the Police Lieutenant is responsible for the 24-hour operations of the department and safety throughout the districtEquipment Used:District vehicle and related equipment, handcuffs, issued firearms, fire extinguishers, security and alarm equipment, two-way radios, and computers and other office equipment.Working Conditions:Physical Demands/Mental Demands/Environmental Factors:The working conditions described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally exposed to communicable diseases and diseases, toxic substance, therapeutic preparations and other conditions common to health care environments.Maintain emotional control under stress. Constant contact involving students, district personnel, visitors, and other members of the public. Frequent district-wide travel. May be subject to hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Work outdoors in a variety of climate conditions. Prolonged sitting and standing; strenuous walking, running, or climbing. Prolonged hours; call back status for emergencies.
