Compensation Package:

$90,000 - $115,000 with bonus potential.

We are currently recruiting for a seasoned EHS Manager to oversee all three locations.

Job Summary

The EHS Manager is responsible for managerial leadership and complex technical work within a wide range of EHS disciplines. The Primary responsibility of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is to oversee the environmental compliance and safety programs at the Ventura Coastal processing facilities in Visalia and Tipton, CA, and the corporate office in Ventura, CA. The EHS Manager will be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of company policies ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, environmental, health and safety regulations. In addition, they will be responsible for full integration of safety and environmental management into the facility's operations as well as ensuring that the facility safety and environmental goals are met. The EHS Manager will make recommendations to management regarding program implementation and improvements to ensure the successful completion/management of those programs.

Primary Responsibilities

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for the following:

Effective execution, direction, measurement, and monitoring of all safety and environmental management processes following established regulations, policies, standards and best practices.

Creating, maintaining and improving upon safety and environmental training and programs by applying knowledge of current policies and regulations.

Leading EHS regulatory inspections and serving as primary contact/liaison with federal, state and local regulatory agencies for EHS compliance. Build and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and local regulators.

Providing education, training and support to the Operations team in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management training programs.

Ensuring hazard management for highly hazardous chemicals complies with federal, state and local regulations.

Conducting chemical, hazardous materials, and operations risk assessments to identify needed engineering controls and other regulatory requirements are in place.

Regularly evaluating current Risk Management Plan (RMP) to make improvements to comply with required regulatory changes as needed.

Developing, implementing and maintaining facility Emergency Response Plans and associated training.

Partnering with risk management (Operations and Property Casualty Insurance Risk Management teams) to identify trends and opportunities for improvements.

Working with the Plant Directors in setting environmental and safety priorities and goals consistent with corporate objectives, environment compliance regulations and safety targets.

Ensuring internal EHS site audits, self-assessments, and inspections throughout the facilities are performed on a scheduled basis to monitor and comply with established policies, procedures and regulations.

Maintaining EHS Management System to track facility inspections, safety violations, and manner of resolution and follow-up reports.

Develop, mentor, coach and lead EHS team members to achieve EHS initiatives and comply with established policies, procedures and regulations.

Process Safety Management/Cal-ARP

RMP (Risk Management Plan)

Ventura City Water/Waste

Regional Water Board

Cal-OSHA

CUPA

Managing facilities hazardous materials and waste including disposal of waste streams, waste vendor management, and associated hazard/waste material reporting. Wastes include:

Solid,

Non-regulated,

Electronic,

Biohazard,

Hazardous (including laboratory and sanitation chemicals),

Universal,

Used oil, and

Storm Water.

Managing the program for above ground storage tanks and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) programs at the facility and related locations.

Ensuring all permits associated with operations are maintained including but not limited to:

Air Pollution Board

HAZMAT Handling

Waste Water Permits (City/State)

Boilers/Pressure vessels

Serving as facilities pollution prevention/waste minimization/recycling site representative responsible for promoting cost-savings and/or cost avoidance measures.

Collaborating with Engineering and Maintenance on capital improvement and new construction projects by reviewing plans and specifications for construction of new facilities, machinery or equipment to determine if all safety and environmental requirements have been met.

Safety:

Developing, Monitoring and Updating Health and Safety programs, policies, procedures, and training.

Establishing and communicating employee safety expectations by providing safety training, communication programs, Contingency Planning and ergonomic evaluations.

Developing, conducting and monitoring attendance for employee training in areas including safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring and use of safety equipment. Safety trainings include but are not limited to:

Annual Safety Training,

Monthly Tailgate Meetings,

Lock-Out Tag Out,

Personal Protective Equipment,

Hearing Conservation,

Chemical/Ammonia Awareness,

Fire Extinguisher,

Blood Bourne Pathogens,

Heat stress,

Confined Space,

Emergency Evacuations,

Fall Protection/Ladder Safety,

First Aid/CPR,

Ergonomics,

Back Injury, and

General Housekeeping.

Leading Safety Committee as Chairperson responsible for holding, recording and acting on monthly meetings.

Ensuring compliance with health and safety record-keeping and reporting requirements including OSHA 300 Log and Workers Compensation.

Partnering with Human Resources and Operations to ensure timely accident, injury and occupational illness reporting and investigation to determine root causes, preventive measures and appropriate remedial actions to address and prevent reoccurrence.

Consulting with medical professionals and our workers compensation carrier to assess individual health risks after an accident or injury to support appropriate workplace accommodations and mitigate ongoing health issues and concerns.

Responsible for compiling, analyzing and interpreting data related to occupational illnesses and accidents to understand trends and develop programs for improvement.

Maintaining necessary emergency response relationships with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to ensure accidents and injuries are addressed appropriately.

Regularly inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, programs and processes in order to identify and correct potential hazards as well as update guidelines for compliance, risk and injury reduction to ensure compliance with safety regulations. This includes reviewing preventative maintenance schedules to ensure machinery and equipment are well maintained.

Leading the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) programs and working with transportation safety on common safety and environmental issues related to each facility.

Conducting or coordinating testing of air quality, noise, temperature, and/or chemical levels to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Planning and conducting industrial hygiene inspections as necessary.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Advanced skills using Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as large ERP applications.

Extensive working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for environmental, health and safety programs, processes and best practices.

Thorough

knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

Knowledge of physical/natural sciences and industrial hygiene skills is desired.

Food processing industry experience is desired.

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are expected to collaborate, train and communicate effectively in this role.

Ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities simultaneously and to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs as well as the ability to lead others through change.

Skilled in organization and prioritization as well as demonstrating a high level of attention to detail.

B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is desired.

8 to 10 years of EHS leadership experience, preferably in a manufacturing or processing environment.

Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to meet flexible and changing priorities and the ability to work under pressure.

70% walking, climbing ladders and stairs in a plant environment; 30% in an office environment at a desk or working at a computer terminal.

Must be able to travel between all three sites on a routine basis as needed.

May be required to lift to 50 lbs. on occasion.

May be required to assume different physical positions while providing examples of expected behaviors during safety trainings.

May be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
