Full-time; Exempt
Salary:
$48,000/year
Position summary:
The Senior Cataloging Librarian supports the documentation and discovery of VMHC's published collections through the creation of catalog records and other descriptive data. This position also oversees the training and performance of staff, interns and volunteers on published collections cataloging projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform original and copy cataloging, including descriptive and subject cataloging of published collections using RDA, LCSH, LCC and MARC21 standards
Proofread published collections cataloging to ensure adherence to standard practices
Edit and update existing catalog records to improve access
Oversee the work of staff, interns and volunteers on published collections cataloging projects
Participate in projects and outreach to promote access to and enhance the knowledge base for the published collections and other VMHC resources
Lead and serve on cross-functional teams and committees
Assist library staff with reference services as required
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary:
Knowledge of United States and Virginia history
Experience with copy and original cataloging in OCLC using RDA, LCSH, LCC and MARC21 standards
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate workflows
Ability to use office-related computer programs (word processing, database management systems, spreadsheets, email) and equipment (printers, photocopiers, scanners, etc.)
Ability to lift boxes or various objects of at least 40 pounds
Education & Experience Requirements:
ALA-accredited graduate degree required
Two years of demonstrated experience with original cataloging in multiple formats
Two years of experience cataloging rare books
