Our client is seeking a new General Counsel to join their leading P&C carrier. This is a newly created role with real autonomy and scope to make an impact. The role offers direct exposure to the CEO and a potential pathway for further progression. The business uses external counsel which you will manage, along with a wider compliance team to support you.If you have strong P&C exposure and are seeking a new challenge with a market-leading team, then this is the role for you! This is a broad generalist role across corporate, litigation, regulatory, governance, and compliance.The OPPORTUNITYThe company is looking for a trusted advisor to serve as their Vice President/General Counsel, providing advice and counsel to the Company, the CEO, the Board, and Builders Mutual's Executive management. This executive role affords an opportunity to oversee the legal ramifications of all Company corporate and business matters such as governance, geographic expansion, regulatory compliance, corporate reorganization, litigation risk management, human resources, contract negotiation and management, and selection and coordination of outside counsel.The Vice President/General Counsel must have superior legal qualifications, professional agility, and innovation, as well as strong strategic and analytical skills with a proven track record in corporate legal management. This role will foster collaboration and build stronger relationships within the wider business. This hybrid role will work in their Raleigh office a minimum of two days with the flexibility of remote work three days a week.The Vice President/General Counsel will make a difference by:Serving as an advisor to senior leadership by providing expert and strategic legal advice and support for all internal and external Company affairs as well as ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.Providing leadership and guidance on legal issues including but not limited to insurance law, corporate law, contracts, real property, intellectual property, employment law, civil litigation, dispute resolution, and risk management.Maintaining effective communication and disclosures with internal and external stakeholders on legal matters.Developing and implementing legal processes and strategies to support company operations and business objectives while mitigating legal risks and potential liabilities.Actively following legal trends and legislative initiatives in the Company's geographic footprint and overseeing the implementation of all necessary compliance programs.Representing the Company or arranging representation by outside counsel in any legal proceeding as may be necessary and appropriate. Overseeing the work of outside counsel.Contributing to corporate strategy and developing programs to achieve Company objectives and protect its legal rights and interests.In partnership with appropriate stakeholders, reviewing and negotiating contracts and agreements, overseeing and conducting legal due diligence to protect Company business interests consistent with legal and industry standards.Skills to get the JOB done RIGHT:Experienced attorney with legal, regulatory, and claims legal experience in the property/casualty insurance industry. Prefer 10 years total experience as a licensed Attorney with a minimum of 7 years working with property and casualty insurance laws and litigation. Experience as general counsel or assistant general counsel of a property and casualty insurance company is preferred.Juris Doctor from ABA-accredited law program and currently admitted and in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar. Alternatively, admitted to and in good standing with the Bar of another state but eligible for admission to the North Carolina State Bar through comity.Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters and provide strategic advice to appropriate stakeholders.Superior writing and verbal communication, problem-solving, organizational management, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage and inform all stakeholders of the legal requirements for all critical business projects.Experience in intellectual property, corporate governance, regulatory and compliance, risk management, and litigation management are preferred.Experience interacting with a Board of Directors, audit and investment committees, and other board-level insurance executives is preferred.Excellent salary, wider benefits package, clear promotion, and exposure on offer with hybrid workflow.
