(10/02/2024)St. James the Apostle ParishPort RicheyPOSITION SUMMARYResponsible for the total religious education program of the parish for adults, youth, and children as designated by the Pastor.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:As a representative of the pastor, the DRE implements the parish religious program in accordance with the parish mission statement and goals. The DRE manages program content and budget; coordinates with other parish ministries and activities; reports to pastor.Articulates a vision of catechesis and catechetical process based on the major catechetical documents of the Roman Catholic Church.Review, evaluate and develop programs, mission statements, long and short-range goals and objectives with the pastor.Provide an academic schedule to the pastor outlining the Catechetical topics and dates to be presented.Apply appropriate principles of human development, especially faith and moral within a catechetical program.Utilize appropriate methodologies for adult and child-centered learning.Children in faith formation should know the four pillars for passing on the faith:

Profession of Faith (Creed).The Seven Sacraments.Life in Christ (Morality).Christian Prayer (Catholic).

Teach the Precepts of the Catholic Church:

The Precepts are as follows:Attendance at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of ObligationConfession of serious sin at least once a yearReception of Holy Communion at least once a year during the Easter seasonObservance of the days of fast and abstinenceProviding for the needs of the Church

Ensure that parents know and follow the Precept of the Catholic Church, with special importance on their regular Mass attendance with their children.Encourage parents to be living examples of their Catholic faith for their children.Use media and technology for effective program implementation, for example, FORMED, which is used at this parish.Incorporate service opportunities and reflections on these experiences in a catechetical program for adults, adolescents, and children.Provide opportunities for Catholic prayer, personal spiritual development, and communal worship.Initiate and maintain accurate records on students, families, catechists, and other participants.QUALIFICATIONS:Practicing Roman Catholic with a commitment to her or his own faith life.Knowledge of Scripture, the Catechism, and Church documents.Familiarity with Church history, the stories of the saints and martyrs, and Mariology.Experience in teaching the Catholic faith to adults, youth, and children.Able to communicate with all age groups from varying cultural and social backgrounds.Skilled organizer and overseer of catechetical programs that incorporate volunteer contributions.Sensitive to controversial issues and able to respond according to Catholic teaching.Familiar with the use of media and technology for effective program implementation.EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:An undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited university.Successfully pass a level II (FBI) criminal history background check and attend Safe Environment Training before employment.
