EPATT tutors are responsible for the 1:1 tutoring of a Kinder - 12th grade student. This role requires a desire and commitment to instruct students while adhering to EPATT curriculum implementation resulting in measurable impact.
About EPATT:
The East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring program (EPATT) is an established non-profit organization that has made a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of students from East Palo Alto since 1988. Using a unique mix of one-on-one academic tutoring, tennis, and enrichment activities, EPATT strives to equip students to be college and career ready.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
MUST BE IN CALIFORNIA TO APPLY!
EPATT is seeking energetic, committed, motivated, organized, and creative Tutor Specialists. This role requires comprehension of math, reading, and writing at the elementary, middle, or high school level. The ideal candidate is interested in education or the non-profit sector. Experience working with youth from under-resourced communities is a plus.
College degree or in progress strongly preferred
Some high school seniors accepted, but must show proof of a minimum 3.5 GPA
Authorized to work in the USA
Creativity and flexibility in order to personalize instruction for individual students
Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain challenging concepts, provide instructions, and deliver feedback
Openness to feedback and desire to grow professionally
Strong organization skills and attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent work ethic
A high level of energy and enthusiasm
Must pass a background check.
(fingerprinting must be completed in California)
Location:
This is primarily a remote position, but in-person options are available for candidates close to the East Palo Alto community.
Dates:
Ongoing! Fall tutoring = September - December 2024; Spring tutoring = January - May 2025
Hours & Schedule:
Tutoring schedule depends on the age group of the student. Once a tutor is matched, the schedule is constant. Tutors commit to at least 2, 40-minute sessions per week.
Topics: Reading, Math, SAT prep, and/or Science for grades K-12th.
Compensation:
The EPATT Tutor is an academic year position and does not include benefits. This position is contracted quarterly (fall, winter, spring, summer).
Stipend
of $400.00 awarded
at the end of the quarter
only if all duties are met. Potential for $200 bonus if you implement the curriculum with fidelity and effectively. Most tutors receive $600 at the end of 2.5 months of tutoring.
Expected hours: 3-4 hours per week (tutoring time + professional development/training)
May use hours towards Federal Work Study
This is a part-time position
