Scientist I, Medicinal Chemistry

FogPharma, Cambridge, Massachusetts, us, 02140

Why join us?

FogPharma is a biopharmaceutical company pioneering the discovery and development of Helicon therapeutics, which are peptides capable of efficient cell entry and modulation of both protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions. Through Helicon therapeutics, FogPharma is poised to revolutionize the medical possibilities for patients by precisely drugging intracellular targets long understood to be significant drivers of disease but never before drugged due to the limitations of existing drug modalities to act within the cell.

FOG-001, the company’s first-in-class TCF-blocking β-catenin inhibitor, is being evaluated in a Phase 1/2 study for patients with advanced solid tumors, including colorectal cancer. FogPharma is fully leveraging the unprecedented potential Helicons present by deploying proprietary, custom-built machine learning and computational methods as part of its discovery and development process. FogPharma has raised more than $500 million to date from leading life sciences investors. FogPharma is headquartered in Cambridge, Mass.

What’s the opportunity?

We are looking for a highly motivated, scientifically curious, and innovative synthetic chemist to join the Medicinal Chemistry Synthesis Group. Our goal is to discover and develop the best Helicons (stapled peptides) for rapid advancement of FogPharma’s discovery programs and platform. In this lab-based role, you will become a part of an energizing and collaborative research environment working alongside colleagues who are committed to improving human health through the discovery of transformative medicines.

Specific responsibilities include:

Design and synthesize complex organic compounds, including Helicon peptides, to advance programs towards clinical candidate nominations.

Perform solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) using automated peptide synthesizers, analyze products, and troubleshoot synthesis processes.

Collaborate with scientists across the organization, including Biology, De Novo Discovery, Data Science, and PharmDev, to drive the discovery and development of Helicon peptides.

Support development efforts at CDMOs through direct interactions.

Accurately record, analyze, and present data to team members and company leadership.

What you’ll need to be successful:

PhD with 0-2 years of experience in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry.

Experience with SPPS and peptide modifications is a plus.

Strong understanding and practical experience in synthetic organic methodologies, combined with excellent problem-solving skills.

Advanced proficiency with modern analytical tools (e.g., HPLC, LC-MS, etc.).

Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to proactively collaborate with other chemistry teams to identify opportunities that positively impact projects.

Proven track record of scientific contributions, including peer-reviewed publications, patents, and presentations.

Ability to work on-site and attend in-person meetings.
