Position Title: Grants Specialist

Our Saviour’s Community Services (OSCS) provides dignified shelter and housing for single adults and basic education classes to adult English language learners in the Phillips Community of South Minneapolis. The Grants Specialist manages all grants, funding relationships, and processes to maintain and grow institutional funding in support of Our Saviour’s Community Services. The grants portfolio for this role includes family foundations, corporate foundations, faith communities, and government entities. The Grants Specialist is responsible for maintaining existing funding relationships and funded grants and expanding the portfolio through research, relationship building, and assessment of fit. This position works collaboratively with other members of the Development Team, as well as program staff members.This position is non-exempt, hourly, and full-time, regularly scheduled at 40 hours per week, and reports to the Development and Communications Manager. This position has the flexibility to work in a hybrid environment, dividing their time between working from home and a central office. Onsite work includes meeting with funders, learning about programs, and participating in organizational events/meetings. This position typically works an agreed-upon schedule from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend hours are required for events and meetings.Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Proposal Development and Submission; Duties and tasks include:

Preparing and submitting grant proposals, including writing narratives, and supporting the development of project scope and budgets.Coordinating with funders to clarify guidelines and funding interests and address any issues related to the application process.Facilitating internal meetings to inform content, strategy, and funding priorities for grant opportunities.Incorporating input from colleagues to write and prepare compelling grant proposals that align with funders’ interests.Setting timelines and coordinating projects to lead the timely and complete submission of all grant applications and their required components.Grants Management; Duties and tasks include:

Tracking all stages of the grant lifecycle in databases, including application deadlines, reporting deadlines, interactions with funders, and grant results.Maintaining all files related to grants, including an annual grants calendar, standard proposal materials, and archives.Serving as the organization’s primary contact with funders, including building relationships and meeting with funders, and providing information, tours, and updates as requested.Developing relationships with internal Program Directors to support ongoing funding needs, staying apprised of ongoing program changes, and promoting shared understanding regarding the status of various grants and associated expenses.Leading the organization’s preparation for and work resulting from site visits and external meetings related to grants.Entering private grant funds into the organization’s donation database.Maintaining funder contact information in donor database.Preparing and sending timely acknowledgements and grant agreements to funders.Supporting the Development and Communications Manager in ensuring organizational compliance with grant agreements and contracts.Coordinating post-award grants management, including monitoring and producing timely reports on the progress of funded projects, and ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and grant conditions.Producing reports using program databases, spreadsheets, and donor databases.Supporting and leading continuous improvement of the organization’s grants management systems.Prospecting and Planning; Duties and tasks include:

Seeking out new funding sources appropriate to our mission, including private sources and government entities.Developing and cultivating relationships with existing and new funders, including assessing the fit between funders’ priorities and the strengths and vision of OSCS.Producing Letters of Intent and pursuing meetings to advance new funding relationships.Supporting the agency budgeting process by developing an annual grants plan with revenue goals.Data and Research; Duties and tasks include:

Organizing and tracking internal program data to inform grant applications and reports.Identifying outcome metrics that need reporting plans; working with program leaders to ensure systems are in place to be able to report on those data points as needed.Researching data, trends, and timely topics relevant to the work of OSCS to support proposals.Analyzing funding trends to advise on potential grant opportunities and risks.Team Culture; Duties and tasks include:

Participating actively in projects and events of the Development and Communications Team.Actively participating in building a culture of belonging within OSCS.Required Skills and Abilities

Excellent technical grantwriting and persuasive writing skills.Keen attention to detail.Impeccable time management and organizational skills, including the ability to meet multiple deadlines while managing priorities accordingly.Deep understanding of project planning.Ability to articulate clear, measurable goals.Strong interpersonal communication skills, written and verbal.Effective project management skills.Critical thinking skills.Ability to lead meetings effectively.Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into cohesive deliverables.Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.Ability to summarize and work with raw data sets.Ability to analyze and evaluate grant eligibility, application requirements, and funding cycles.Demonstrated cultural fluency and commitment to diversity.Ability to effectively read, understand, and write in the English language.Ability to sit and work in front of a computer for long periods and use standard office equipment, including computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse.Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Demonstrated experience with grant writing or other persuasive writing, with 2+ years of relevant work experience in grant writing, fundraising, or philanthropy preferred.Background in a discipline related to administration, fundraising, finance, or communications is preferred.Prior work and/or volunteer experience related to the mission of OSCS is preferred.Experience writing or managing government funding opportunities is a plus.Experience with program budgets or program evaluation is a plus.Job Type:
