The Safety and Security Manager at French International School of Oregon is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role will oversee all aspects of campus security, emergency preparedness, and safety education, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Development:

Create, implement, and maintain a comprehensive school safety plan, including security protocols, emergency procedures, and risk mitigation strategies.

Emergency Preparedness:

Conduct and manage state-required emergency drills (fire, earthquake, lockdown), ensuring compliance with local regulations and providing staff and students with emergency response education.

Security Operations:

Oversee the daily security operations, including managing entry/exit points, and monitoring security technology systems (CCTV, access control).

Risk Assessment:

Regularly assess and audit school grounds, identifying potential safety hazards, and implementing solutions using Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.

Incident Response:

Serve as the primary contact for all on-campus safety and security incidents. Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders when needed.

Training & Education:

Develop and deliver safety training programs for staff and students, including de-escalation techniques, Standard Response Protocol (SRP), and emergency preparedness.

Policy Compliance:

Ensure the school's safety protocols align with government regulations (OSHA, local fire code, etc.), and maintain documentation for audits and inspections.

Contract and Vendor Management:

Manage relationships with security service providers, technology vendors, and contractors related to campus safety upgrades or maintenance.

Data Management:

Track and analyze security incidents and trends to inform policy and procedure improvements.

Collaboration:

Partner with school administration, teachers, parents, and external agencies to promote a culture of safety throughout the school.

Leadership:

Chair of the Emergency Operations and Planning Committee, Co-Chair of the Safety Committee, and other committees as are relevant to the position.

Traffic & Bus Operations:

Responsible for coordinating and facilitating communication between FI and the bus operations team at Catlin Gabel.

Visitor Management:

Receive and direct visitors coming to campus. Provide direction, answer questions, and communicate to faculty and staff about visitor arrival. Answer phone calls and emails to the general school phone and email address and transfer or record calls/messages as appropriate.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Emergency Management, Public Safety, or related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years in a safety/security management role, preferably in an educational setting.

Certifications:

Oregon DPSST Certification, OSHA Certification, or equivalent safety/security certifications preferred.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and security management software. Experience with CCTV, access control, and communication systems.

Soft Skills:

Excellent communication and leadership abilities, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in K-12 educational environments or working with children.

Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, crisis response, and de-escalation techniques.

Knowledge of the Standard Response Protocol and performing school wide emergency drills.

Executive and Supervisory Manager License through Oregon DPSST or willing to receive one.

Working Conditions

This role involves working both indoors and outdoors, with occasional evening or weekend hours for events or emergencies.

The ability to respond quickly to incidents and maintain calm under pressure is essential.

Possess sufficient physical ability and mobility to stand, walk, or drive on campus in various weather conditions; to climb stairs; to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight (up to 50lbs); sit at a desk and operate a computer.

Annual Salary:

$60,000
