Terms and Hours:

Full Time Faculty on a 9-month academic year assignment

Salary Range:

Annual salaries for the 2025-2026 academic year have not yet been determined. The 2024-2025 annual salary for a first-year assistant professor in the School of Nursing & Health Innovations is $87,051.

Job Summary:

The University of Portland located in Portland, Oregon, invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing & Health Innovations to begin August 15, 2025. Candidates in all areas of expertise are welcome to apply.

School of Nursing & Health Innovations

Successful candidates will have a high level of enthusiasm and engagement in innovative and inclusive pedagogy. The SONHI implements state-of-the-art simulation in ambulatory, acute, and telemedicine facilities.

Core Duties:

University of Portland faculty teach, advise, conduct research, and serve the School and the University. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching, including attention to evidence-based instructional practices, and the potential for productive research in the context of a primarily undergraduate teaching institution. All SONHI faculty teach across programs, assist students in achievement of course objectives, guide student interaction in course-related work groups, grade coursework and provide feedback. All tenure-track faculty are expected to develop an active program of scholarship and collaborate with colleagues in service to the SONHI and UP.

Education & Experience:

Required: Doctoral degree in nursing or health-related field (Ph.D., D.N.P., Ed.D.). Candidates who have not earned a doctoral degree prior to August 2025 would be considered for a position but would begin as a non-tenure track instructor.

Required: A minimum of three years of full-time patient care experience at the registered nurse level.

Certifications & Licenses:

Active unencumbered license as an Oregon RN or eligible for licensure in Oregon.

Preferred: If a D.N.P., national certification as a Nurse Practitioner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated effectiveness in inclusive and student-centered teaching.

Strong orientation towards continued learning and applying learning in the teaching and research environment.

Evidence of a commitment to teaching and student mentoring.

Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty, and staff.

Demonstrated lived experience, knowledge, skills, and/or success in diversity, equity, and inclusion work within or transferable to higher education.

Commitment to collegial collaboration (e.g., teaching, research, or service) both within the school and across the University.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle sensitive and personal information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion.

Physical Requirements:

Frequently: sit, perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine manipulation and grasp; use a telephone; write by hand; sort and file paperwork.

Occasionally: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

Occasionally: ability to attend events and activities on or off campus.

Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and others as necessary.

Working Condition:

Hours of employment: sometimes may require working flexible and/or longer hours, including nights and weekends, when necessitated by projects or class schedules.

Stress from work-related situations such as those involving challenging, important, urgent, time-sensitive, or multiple matters.
