The Christian Ministries Department, within the School of Christian Studies at Asbury University, invites applications and nominations for an open-rank, tenure-track position in

Worship Arts

beginning August 2025.Worship Arts is an important part of the Asbury University campus and the life of the church. The Worship Arts program has a robust program that values a variety of worship approaches and traditions, focusing on helping graduates serve Christ and the church.INSTITUTIONAL COMMITMENT:

Teaching and program management activities equivalent to 24 credit-hours in an academic year. This would include teaching both introductory and upper-level courses in Worship Arts, maintaining the Worship Arts curriculum (recommending periodic modifications as desired), supervising Worship Arts program activities (such as travel bands and chapel bands), and advising students in the Worship Arts program, as well as serving on assigned department and university committees, and providing leadership and active participation in spiritual life activities on campus.ACADEMIC RANK:

Academic rank at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level commensurate with experience. Salary and benefits are competitive with comparable institutions.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should possess a strong academic foundation in the theology and philosophy of worship, as well as a practical knowledge of contemporary music and leadership. A doctorate in Worship Arts or related field is desired. Individuals who hold a master’s degree in Worship Arts, Music, Theology, or a related field, along with significant experience in Worship Arts, and with a commitment to pursue a doctoral degree, and/or ABD’s who are close to completion, are encouraged to apply. At least three years of Worship Arts experience in addition to a master’s degree is a minimum requirement. Expectations include: a deep, personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the local church; evidence of pedagogical skills and scholarship; ability to teach beginning and advanced courses; willingness to design and facilitate on-line courses in the field; adherence to Asbury’s Wesleyan-Holiness statement of faith; capacity to lead and engage in interdisciplinary conversations with other faculty from a Wesleyan-Holiness perspective; and strong interpersonal skills.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Preference will be given to applicants with the most appropriate academic credentials in Worship Arts as well as practical experience in the field. While direct online teaching and learning experience are not required, willingness to adapt to distance-oriented teaching modalities is necessary, given the shifts taking place in higher education. Previous experience in online teaching or learning will be a plus for applicants.COMPENSATION:
