Quality Scientist IPOSITION SUMMARYThis position is responsible for the testing of in-process and final container samples for the release of biological animal vaccines. The individual will be responsible for scheduling testing as well as maintaining and ensuring the availability of materials required for testing. Good documentation practices as well as the ability to follow and comprehend a written procedure is a requirement.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESSterility testing of in-process antigen samples.Media and sample preparation.Completion of bench records following cGMP guidelines.Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, instrumentation, and facility.Maintenance of test methods and test procedures.Data entry.Maintain testing schedules and reagent supply.Executing the validation of new reagents, assays, and methods as necessary.Writing and revising Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Methods.Writing laboratory investigations when necessary, utilizing Method 1 and the DMAIC process.Follow all Zoetis Quality Standards, Policies, and Procedures.ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPSInternal communications with manufacturing, MTS, VMRD-Pilot, QA, and other groups within the Charles City, IA Zoetis site as well as across the Zoetis network.Possible interaction with external vendors for the purchase of materials.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEB.S. in Microbiology, Virology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field.TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTSUnderstanding of Good Aseptic Technique.Understanding of Good Lab Practices (GLP).Understanding of virus and bacterial based assays.Understanding of logarithmic mathematics.Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.Good inter-departmental communication (written/verbal) required.Ability to comprehend and understand written scientific procedures.PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTSMust be able to walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time.Must be able to reach above shoulder level, bend/stoop, kneel, push/pull, and handle/grip frequently.Must be able to work scheduled 40 hours with the ability to work overtime as needed.Frequent lifting and carrying of 5 to 25 lbs.Regular reaching, bending, stooping, and twisting.Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.Flexibility to cover rotating weekend duties.Ability to grasp and manipulate objects like pipettors, flasks, and bottles.
