Our amazing staff collaborate daily to ensure that programs and activities run smoothly, and that participants of all ages and backgrounds have a safe and memorable experience.POSITION SUMMARY:These general functions will be carried out in keeping with the Goals, Policies, and Mission of the YMCA of the East Bay. Instruct high-quality sports & recreational programs in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes age-appropriate development, confidence, self-esteem, and wellness in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Plan and lead safe, motivating, and educational recreational activities for assigned age group to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.Demonstrate proper, safe, and effective techniques. Provide feedback, corrections, and modifications to accommodate differing developmental levels, skill levels, and ages, as appropriate. When conducting group activities, attend to the needs of the entirety of the group.Maintain standards of conduct for all program participants. Encourage a positive atmosphere using YMCA practices for behavior management, positive reinforcement, and engagement.Build effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents, where relevant; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. When appropriate, encourage parent involvement in youth development activities by conveying program information and schedules.Demonstrate the creativity and initiative necessary to change, develop, and adapt program offerings as needed to continually support Y goals and values.Set up and take down class equipment and report any equipment problems. Ensure the safety of participants by caring for program space.Maintain records and administrative responsibilities as required, such as documenting attendance.Maintain professional appearance and a healthy lifestyle.Actively participate in workshops, trainings, and staff meetings as directed by the supervisor.Follow YMCA policies and procedures, such as emergency respondent protocol.Support special events, assist in other areas, and perform other duties as required.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physically perform all skills required of a fitness specialist. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position.Must occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.Visual ability to clearly monitor activities.Mobility to quickly respond to emergencies.Work is performed indoors and outdoors.QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or GED.One year of youth development experience.Prior experience participating in and/or leading group classes.Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of sports, such as basketball and soccer.CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, such as Red Cross and American Heart Association within the first 30 days of employment.Child Abuse prevention training and DOJ/FBI criminal background check by hire date.At least 18 years of age.Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and other computer programs and office machines necessary to perform the duties of the job.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.Availability:

Saturdays 9:00am - 1:00pmThis is a part-time position. A membership to the YMCA's of the East Bay is included.
