The EHS Manager position will provide full time Environmental, Health and Safety support to the Operations group and company as a whole to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. This position will be responsible for coordinating, creating and managing all EHS programs, policies and procedures and training needed to be compliant; working closely with all departments within BG Products Inc. to remain compliant.

Duties & Responsibilities

Leads by example to achieve BG’s Mission/Vision and Core Values.

Adheres to company policies and presents a professional, positive attitude at all times.

Provides daily guidance and direction of EHS programs at all levels to ensure a common and effective approach. Manages daily activities of EHS specialists.

Safety Compliance that includes:

Plans, develops, promotes, advises, implements and assesses processes to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Anticipates, identifies, evaluates and controls hazards and risk through Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments of all BG locations using FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) as the guiding model.

Evaluates the impact of emerging safety issues and regulations on company operations.

Develops and maintains a safety-minded culture of continuous safety awareness, compliance and visibility throughout the company.

Conducts problem-solving investigations, accident/incident/illness, and near miss incidents and communicates results and resolutions as needed.

Evaluates, analyzes, and implements proper engineering and administrative control strategies, and proper personal protective equipment.

Conducts industrial hygiene (IH) monitoring/sampling as needed to maintain compliance with hearing conservation program, air monitoring requirements, and other IH initiatives.

Manages BG Products monthly drug and alcohol testing program at all sites.

Oversees new employee orientation training.

Coordinates and develops safety/environmental meetings that will encourage and promote employee engagement and safety/environmental awareness.

Develops, coordinates and conducts safety-related training such as powered industrial trucks (forklifts), confined space entry, hazard communication, fire safety, fall protection and other training as required.

Coordinates, assists and executes periodic emergency drills such as fire, chemical release, severe weather, medical, and other emergencies and maintains plans accordingly.

Manages the periodic reviews of all safety policies and procedures as well as maintaining injury and illness statistics and reports (Dart, OIR, OSHA, etc.).

Works directly with loss and risk prevention companies that oversee and insure BG properties.

OHSAS 18001 responsibilities include management of safety process and procedures, system auditing, safety reviews, and establishing the objectives for measuring the effectiveness of the system.

Environmental Compliance that includes:

Management of various programs such as the hazardous waste program, the Integrated Contingency Plan (ICP), day to day handling of scrap fluid program.

Manages SPCC and SWPP plans at all affected sites, KDHE annual Tier II and EPA annual Form A/R reports, AST permitting and TSCA compliance.

Oversees weekly / monthly / quarterly / annual environmental inspections.

Manages waste minimization efforts, cost savings and lean EHS initiatives.

ISO 14001 responsibilities include the management of environmental process and procedures, system auditing, environmental reviews, and establishing the objectives for measuring the effectiveness of the system.

Manages the development and implementation of EHS policies and procedures while maintaining existing programs.

Works closely with all departments to maintain proper SDS sheets for all products manufacturing, packaging and shipped from all BG facilities.

Manages all EHS training that includes shipping/receiving departments with DOT / IATA / IMDG regulations and mandatory training.

Maintains working relationships with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.

Oversees the Workers Compensation program; working directly with clinics, doctors, and company insurance carrier to manage workers compensation cases and related costs.

Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.

5 (five) years of experience in EHS Management.

Experience working in a plant manufacturing environment required.

Must have five (5) years’ experience training and leading teams and employees in a cross-functional environment while having discretion in handling business confidential/sensitive information.

Valid driver’s license required.
