About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is actively seeking an

Environmental Project Manager-Generation

with strong interpersonal skills and experience in project permitting and project management to join our team and primarily support renewable energy generation and transmission projects. Projects will primarily be located throughout the South Region, but potential exists for projects in the North and West Regions. This individual will work with a dynamic and company-wide team to successfully drive projects throughout all phases, from early planning and permitting through construction. The ideal candidate will possess environmental consulting and project management experience, preferably with specific knowledge of renewable energy generation. SWCA is looking for the right candidate to take on existing and future projects and help build our presence throughout the region.This is a full-time, salaried exempt position available for remote work based in the state of Texas or as a hybrid or office-based employee working from our Austin, San Antonio or Arlington, Texas office.The successful candidate will have technical expertise and experience in at least several of the following: energy facility siting and constraints studies, permitting, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, and/or agency interactions at all levels. We're seeking a dynamic candidate who excels in managing mid to large-scale, complex projects while consistently hitting milestones within budget and schedule. Your expertise in quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) oversight will be crucial to our success. You'll lead a talented, multidisciplinary team, guiding them through project permitting requirements and ensuring seamless execution. What you will accomplish

Below please find the job responsibilities for an Environmental Project Manager:Leads projects from start to finish, medium duration, high dollar, medium complexity, sometimes multidisciplinary projectsManage projects that include NEPA compliance, biological resource assessments and constraints analyses, state and federal Endangered Species Act consultations, Clean Water Act Section 404 and Section 401 permitting, state-level siting permits, and cultural resources studiesTake a lead role in pursuing project opportunities, primarily within renewable energy generation marketOversee, and execute the management of permitting efforts for renewable energy and transmission projects of all sizes and levels of complexityPerforms all management tasks, including subcontractor management, with light guidanceWork closely with project teams to navigate permitting challenges and meet client needsStrong regulatory knowledge within own discipline, and broad knowledge across multiple disciplinesEnsures all aspects of project deliveryGuides team to modify the approach to meet regulatory requirements and client objectivesAdapts strategy to meet unique and shifting project needsDevelops project management plansMeets schedules, budgets, and project KPIs and reviews invoicesCommunicates directly with clients and regulatorsDelegates to task leadsMay supervise junior employees; serves as a mentorPrepares draft scopes and budgets for mid-size projects, or contributes to large proposals, including multidisciplinary, multi-office pursuitsPerforms final QA/QC of deliverables to ensure conformity to client requirements and ensures QA/QC processPrepares and ensures implementation of the safety planWork closely with SWCA's resource scientists, environmental planners, managers, and directors in both natural and cultural resources groups throughout the company to promote SWCA's business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values

Experience and qualifications for success

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in biology, botany, wildlife management, or a closely related fieldA minimum of seven (7) years of natural resources consulting experience, managing projects, including developing and implementing budgets, schedules, and scopes of workPrior experience managing natural resources projects with renewable energy and/or transmission clientsDemonstrated experience with energy facility siting and constraints studies, permitting, and/or NEPA complianceDemonstrated experience with state and federal agencies such as the US Fish and Wildlife Service, state wildlife agencies, US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)Prior primary report authorship and finalization for clients and agencies in a natural resource consulting context for a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agenciesWith offices across the United States, SWCA is one of the largest environmental compliance firms and ranks among Engineering News-Record's Top 200 Environmental Firms. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
