This position is responsible for supporting the Environmental Health & Safety function at our vast, 63-acre facility. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront. The successful candidate will support the 1,000+ working men and women on our waterfront by passionately pursuing innovative and effective safety solutions that focus primarily on employee well-being, manufacturing efficiency and environmental awareness.Detailed Description:Observe and evaluate workplace environments, equipment or practices to ensure compliance with company safety standards as well as all Local, State and Federal guidelines.Document and investigate incidents to identify root cause and determine detailed proactive measures to prevent such instances in the future.Effectively perform and communicate Root Cause Analysis.Analyze and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes or materials.Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.Assist in the maintenance of current hygiene programs such as noise dosimetry surveys, atmospheric monitoring, ventilation surveys or lead abatement plans.Ensure the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort or performance.Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and participate in the development of materials.Ensure that company, vendors and employees are in compliance with the Global Harmonization System.Maintain emergency response plans and procedures.Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment and first-aid supplies.Collect data samples of various materials for occupational health data collection.Willingness to learn the 29CFR 1910 & 1915 and 46CFR COMDTINST M5100.47C.Provide general administrative support in the EHS Department.Maintain Learning Management System.Maintain workers compensation claims, SCOPE metrics and weekly Safety Gram.Working with medical providers to schedule / arrange appointments.Provide transportation with company vehicle to medical appointments.Ability to handle minor medical treatment and properly triage complex medical injuries or industrial incidents.Ability and willingness to engage in highly energetic pursuits on the waterfront.Maintain a commitment to and promote the Quality and Environmental, Health & Safety Policies.Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.Core Competencies:Ensures Accountability -- Holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.Collaborates -- Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Optimizes Work Processes (Quality & Continuous Improvement) -- Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.Minimum Qualifications:High School DiplomaQualified candidates must be a certified first responder or have the ability to gain certificationDesired Qualifications:Candidates with a degree of study in Occupational Safety & Health or closely related field of studyA minimum of 1-2 years job-related experience pertaining to safety, healthcare or management desiredBilingual language skills (oral & written) a plusActive listening skillsComplex problem solving skillsAbility to convey information effectivelySound judgement and decision making skillsMust have proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including: Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and Power PointMust have the desire to advance and constantly challenge oneselfCompany Overview:Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding (FBS) is located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.
