The AstraZeneca Mt. Vernon site was established in 1972 and is the flagship site delivering innovative, life-changing oral solid medicines. This role offers an exciting opportunity to drive business insight through the manipulation and analysis of data using statistical, machine learning, and AI methodologies. You will engage directly with business users and analytics consumers, understanding business needs, developing appropriate analytics strategies, and ensuring value through the insights provided to the business.Accountabilities:As a Data Scientist, you will establish strong relationships with various teams to develop an in-depth understanding of business needs. You will be responsible for delivering digital projects, planning and prioritizing site digital use cases, translating unstructured, complex business problems into appropriate model and algorithm solutions, and developing a robust understanding of relevant AZ data sources. You will also work with suppliers as needed to augment the AZ capability in analytics and participate and partner in local forums for digitalization.Essential Skills/Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Automation or other related science)A minimum of 3 years of experience in software development, data engineering, data analytics or data scienceManufacturing background and understandingExperience in machine learning using unsupervised and supervised methodsKnowledge of analytical techniques for deriving knowledge from unstructured textUse of Data Science modeling tools (e.g. Python, Dataiku, Snowflake, SAP HANA, SQL, OSI Soft Historian and others)Experience and knowledge of visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, PiVision, Javascript, HTML, CSS) and ability to tell a story with the dataFamiliar with modern software engineering practices and the use of modern collaborative tools (e.g. GitHub, Jira, etc.)Data manipulation/preparation skills including SQL and PythonHands-on experience of interrogating real-world datasets to gain insightAbility to explain complex methods and techniques to a non-technical audienceWork experience in a manufacturing industry with proven experience of successfully creating and deploying a variety of digital solutions to enable business changeKnowledge of Lean methodologies including process mapping, problem solving and continuous improvementStrong engagement, communication and stakeholder management skills, including excellent presentation and influencing skillsExperience of virtual collaboration to lead, shape and develop innovative solutionsAbility to challenge, negotiate and influenceBenefits Management and RealisationSelf-motivated with high degree of adaptability in dealing with an ambiguous, complex, and fast-paced work environment.Desirable Skills/Experience:Strong analytical, problem-solving and innovation skillsProject delivery and business analyst experienceExperience and/or certification in Agile and SCRUM methodologyHigh proficiency in Tulip, Power BI, Power Apps or other similar digital applications in advanced data analyticsFamiliar with programming languageExperience of working in a global organisation with complex/geographical contextBroad understanding of Supply Chain processes and systemsManufacturing knowledgeSupply Chain knowledgeExperience of working in a regulated environmentAt AstraZeneca's Operations division, we are committed to getting more medicines to patients quickly, affordably, and sustainably.
