The Sr. Research Scientist is responsible for developing novel technology-driven innovation, collaborating with a cross-functional team to design, develop, and commercialize winning dairy and dairy alternative foods based on consumer and market understanding. The Scientist is also tasked with developing the formula & process, ensuring smooth scale-up in the factory while validating post-launch success. This role encompasses leading product development programs across innovation, renovation, and productivity, involving strong interactions with internal cross-functional teams and external suppliers, hands-on bench and analytical work, pilot plant work, managing formula cost and specifications, conducting plant tests, and assisting in industrial scale-up.IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:Developing technology and process-focused innovation.Managing projects according to STAGE GATE PROCESS methodology.Working within project teams as the R&I lead to develop formulas and processes, address technical hurdles, provide guidance related to commercialization, assess risks and manage R&I timelines.Contributing to the innovation pipeline by engaging with the broader Denver/Boulder plant-based community, suppliers, external partners, and internal consumer insights team.Designing pilot trials (DOE), organizing tasting sessions with Marketing, and drawing conclusions and recommendations for next steps.Collaborating with suppliers to obtain best results for product development.Participating in consumer test design, organizing sample production, and ensuring product quality follow-up.Realizing scale-up with Engineering and Manufacturing departments and conducting shelf life studies.Preparing all specifications related to product line and ensuring documentation is available prior to start-up.Planning, executing, and managing the development of prototype products in lab, pilot plant, and production facilities.Sourcing and maintaining vendor relationships to secure necessary ingredients.Ensuring all developed products meet internal and external guidelines.Becoming an internal subject matter expert in providing solutions to challenging technical projects.Networking with Danone global R&I community to share best practices.The base compensation range for this position is $110,000-165,000 commensurate with experience. The following combination of education and experience is required for this position:Bachelor's degree in Dairy Science, Food science, engineering, or a closely related field with at least 10 years of relevant progressive experience.Master's degree in Dairy Science, Food science, engineering, or closely related field with at least 7 years of relevant progressive experience.PhD degree in Dairy Science, Food science, engineering, or a closely related field with at least 5 years of relevant, progressive experience.Strong technical skills in product formulation, industrial processes, and manufacturing practices.Preferred in-depth knowledge of dairy and/or plant-based development, specifically around fermentation.Experience in process development and optimization.Knowledge of principles of food process engineering and technical troubleshooting.Ability to transfer technology from pilot to industrial scale.Flexibility to travel (25%) & willingness to support plant trials outside of business hours.Strong project management/organization and leadership skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work cross-functionally and train staff.Proficient in product development systems and general computer skills.Comfortable and passionate about creating, rapid prototyping, development and commercialization of ideas under tight timelines.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage and track multiple projects.About Us, We offer and What's next
