DescriptionJob Summary
Serving as a Medical Director and with the support of the Infection Prevention department, responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and managing the spread of infectious diseases within the hospital, the Hospital Epidemiologist plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy hospital environment relative to infectious diseases. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee development of consistent standard operating procedure and management strategies for hospital-acquired infections (HAI).
Routinely conducts surveillance of the environment and reports on potential hazards related to infection prevention.
Conducts education as needed for physicians, staff, volunteers, and patients related to prevention of the spread of infection.
Consult and advise Team Member Health about exposures and vaccinations.
Coordinate with Antimicrobial Stewardship Team for efforts in best practices for use of antimicrobials and prevention of emergence of resistant organisms.
Interface with surgical services about wound infections, relevant complications.
Work with sepsis task force for sepsis treatment and prevention initiatives or research.
With IP and quality teams, educate staff on implementing best practices and quality improvement measures.
Advise Vascular Access team, Environmental Services, Facilities, Sterile Processing and Disinfection, procedural areas on best practices for infection prevention.
Membership/sponsorship on quality workgroups for infection prevention as needed.
Oversight of mitigation policies for infection prevention.
Direct oversight of the FHSC System, will report out to system entity boards, MEC's, etc.
Qualifications
Doctorate Degree, with a focus on Infectious Diseases.
Licensed Medical Doctor, MD.
Board-certified Infectious Disease Physician.
Prior medical leadership experience, minimum 1 year (Medical Director, Program Leaders, etc.)
