Summary:

This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Western Region (WR), Weather Forecast Office (WFO) with one vacancy located in Portland, OR. This position is also announced under vacancy number NWS WR OR-24-12553913-DE, which is open to all US Citizens or Nationals.Responsibilities:

As a Lead Hydro-Meteorologist Technician (OPL) you will perform the following duties:Issue weather, water, and climate information, including accurate and timely warnings and forecasts, to the public and other customers served within the Weather Forecast Office (WFO) area of responsibility.Analyze and evaluate local synoptic and mesoscale weather and hydrologic observations available from multiple observation sources at the WFO while on an operational shift.Ensure the basic operating characteristics of NWS electronic and computer systems used in data acquisition, communications, information processing, and dissemination activities, including control procedures associated with the WSR-88D system.Provide appropriate advice, training, guidance, explanations, weather briefings and answers to questions as requested by the public, the media, and other interested customers of weather, water, and climate products and services.Requirements:Conditions of Employment:A one year probationary period may be required.Payment of relocation expenses may be authorized.This position is in the bargaining unit.This position is covered by (1538).Key Requirements:Applicants must be U.S. Citizens.Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation.Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.Qualifications:Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook. EDUCATION: There is no Substitution of Education for this series and grade. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. To qualify for the GS-12: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:Using weather radar systems for data acquisition, information processing, or dissemination activities;Analyzing and monitoring mesoscale weather and hydrologic observations;Assessing weather situations and associated meteorological and hydrologic data to provide information, warnings and forecasts to the public and customers;Assembling, monitoring, and maintaining weather instruments.NOAA participates in e-Verify.
