This is a full-time teaching position.The Humanities Academy at SMPREP offers standards-based, Gold Standard PBL curricula. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSBachelor’s degree in SpanishNative or near-native fluency in SpanishAbility to teach any level of Spanish from Spanish I – AP Spanish LiteratureKnowledge of cultural products, practices, and perspectives of the Spanish-speaking communitiesKnowledge of best practices in the teaching of World Languages, including (but not limited to) familiarity with ACTFL’s World-Readiness Standards, ACTFL’s Proficiency Guidelines, CA World Languages StandardsExperience using instructional technologyAbility to convey enthusiasm for the subject matter and develop a positive rapport with studentsStrong interpersonal and communication skills in Spanish and EnglishWillingness to contribute to school life outside of the classroomDesire to cultivate an inclusive, collaborative, and challenging learning environment that reflects SM Prep’s core values and allows our diverse student body to grow and thriveAbility to create an environment in the classroom and in all areas of co-curricular responsibility that nurtures the development of the whole studentDESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONSExperience with and/or commitment to continual development and implementation of a standards-based PBL curriculumMaster’s degree in Spanish, Education or related field and/or California Single-subject Teaching Credential in Spanish3-5 years teaching experienceExperience with collaborative curriculum design, ideally including backward design based on clearly defined learning objectives, and experience planning student-centered lessons that are differentiated to meet the needs of all learnersExperience providing instruction that prioritizes communicative and task-based pedagogical approachesExperience leveraging instructional technology to increase student contact hours with the target languageWage RangeThe rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
