Cascade Bio, Denver, Colorado, United States, 80285

Job Description:

Cascade Bio is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and effective communicator to join our innovative startup. We are dedicated to advancing sustainable chemical manufacturing through enzyme-based processes. As a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate, you will be pivotal to our research efforts, focusing on enzymology, protein characterization, bioconjugation, and analytical assay development. You will work with cutting-edge techniques and technologies to support our mission of scientific excellence.

Importantly, we are seeking a candidate who embodies our core values: demonstrating an active curiosity, consistent communication, an inherent assumption of goodwill in their interactions with others, and an excitement for the enzymatic future.

Responsibilities:

Biocatalysis: Conduct experiments, including enzyme characterization, optimization of reaction conditions, and testing enzyme activity under various stress conditions, in collaboration with senior researchers.

HPLC Knowledge and Use: Operate HPLC instrumentation for enzyme characterization and product formation. Troubleshoot new methods and interpret results.

Protein Characterization: Perform and interpret experiments to characterize and enhance proteins, including purification, stability, and activity.

Bioconjugation: Develop and apply bioconjugation techniques to modify proteins and other biomolecules.

Data collection and analysis: Accurately record experimental procedures, observations, and results. Organize and analyze data using appropriate statistical methods and software.

Sample preparation: Prepare samples and reagents according to established protocols and safety guidelines. Maintain accurate inventory of chemicals, enzymes, and supplies.

Collaborative teamwork: Work with cross-functional teams, including chemists, chemical engineers, and biologists, to design experiments, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to project planning and execution.

Documentation: Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations to communicate research findings and progress. Contribute to scientific manuscripts and patent applications.

Laboratory maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory. Assist with routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.

Flexibility: As an early hire at a startup, be adaptable and willing to take on various responsibilities beyond core expertise.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience, or a Master's/PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.

Proven experience in designing, conducting, and analyzing enzyme assays to investigate enzyme kinetics, stability, and activity.

Prior experience with HPLC.

Ability to analyze and interpret scientific data using statistical methods and software tools. A solid foundation in statistics is essential.

Effective communication skills and ability to interpret and share results in a clear and concise way.

Proactive approach to troubleshooting experimental issues and proposing innovative solutions.

Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
