Job DescriptionThe Scholarship Specialist includes reviewing applications to ensure applications are complete, working with committees and utilizing software to review and rank applications, coordinating student interviews and awards, providing general support to students, and other related responsibilities. Manages and oversees the awarding of institutional, state, and private scholarships. Responsible for the tracking and reporting of awards in the scholarship matching software system. Manages communication with departments, awarding organizations, and students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.

One year of relevant experience.

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Experience in financial aid, higher education, pre-college programming or equivalent.

Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to a wide variety of financial situations.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and word processing.

Data management experience is preferred.

Exceptional interpersonal skills with all ages are required.

Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

Role and Responsibilities

Serve as prospect researcher for scholarships from the private, federal and state sectors and for the Office of Institutional Advancement.

Review criteria for scholarships and match students with the appropriate scholarship according to the written criteria of the foundation/donor.

Provide information and resources regarding scholarships to students, parents, faculty and staff through various means of communications – University’s website, scholarship newsletter, posters, flyers, emails and other social media outlets.

Assist with preparing the scholarship applications for students.

Assist students with scholarship questions and concerns, serving as an informational resource to current and incoming students and resolving issues raised by parents.

Assist students with writing thank you letters to various foundations/donors who provide scholarships.

Ensure that students adhere to all scholarship deadlines.

Create scholarship profiles for students to include the admissions process, essays, resumes, scholarship availability, and financial aid process.

Plan and execute an annual scholarship competition.

Maintain an active database of University admissions, donor information, and scholarships awarded.

Create and maintain scholarship monthly reports as required.

Work closely with the Admissions Office to communicate with prospective students through various communication mediums and with the Financial Aid Office regarding questions on the scholarship application to keep it updated.

Publish a scholarship directory and promote scholarships via electronic communications, flyers, brochures, etc.

Set up campus visits for prospective students interested in applying for scholarships.

Exercise confidentiality concerning student information and donor related information.

Research and develop sources of available scholarships and evaluate requirements; analyze and determine scholarship needs and trends; and seek on-campus and off-campus scholarship sponsors.
