Departmental Overview

UC Berkeley Youth Recreation leads the way in providing summer camps, programs, and clinics for youth of all ages. Located on the UC Berkeley campus for more than 60 years, we offer high-caliber, impactful, and enriching camps and programs.

The First Review Date for this job is: 10/14/2024. This is an ongoing hiring process with numerous positions available. Applications will be regularly assessed, and hiring will occur at various points throughout the year.

Responsibilities

Youth Basketball Instructors provide instruction and support to enrolled recreational youth participants as assigned in a clinical athletic setting. Responsibilities include:

Provide general supervision, risk management, and downtime activities for participants.

Develop age-appropriate relationships with participants and identify and meet individual participants' needs.

Help participants improve basketball skills, social skills, and sportsmanship.

Account for all participants and take attendance regularly.

Supervise participants during breaks.

Assist participants with their belongings and lost and found.

Motivate participants to enthusiastically participate in all activities.

Teach age-appropriate basketball skills, drills, and activities.

Plan progressive lessons based on participants' ages and skill levels.

Submit Incident/Accident reports to supervisor in a timely manner.

Maintain excellent communication with Camp Leads and Coordinators.

Interact with recreational program participants positively.

Complete and submit paperwork accurately.

Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of program activity practices and procedures.

Verbal and written communication skills in English.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and employ reasoning skills.

Basic skills in computer programs relevant to job duties.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification to instruct in the applicable recreational sports program or equivalent experience preferred.

Standard First Aid Training Certification preferred.

Salary & Benefits

This is an 8-month, part-time (12 hours/week), contract appointment, not eligible for UC benefits. The budgeted hourly range is

$20.00 - $24.00.
