The faculty member will function as a full-time Assistant Professor in research at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and Department of Neuroscience. We desire a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual to work on mechanistic and translational research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Linda Van Eldik, Director of the Center on Aging. Projects focus primarily on understanding and modulating the detrimental inflammatory and neurodegenerative responses that contribute to pathophysiology in mouse models of CNS disorders, especially Alzheimer’s disease and vascular cognitive impairment and dementia.Research and other creative activities will include initiating research; collaborating with faculty and other professionals inside/outside the institution to provide scientific direction and guidance on issues related to the design, conduct, and evaluation of research and other scholarly activities; leading and participating in the submission of applications to appropriate extramural agencies; and providing scientific and technical assistance to the College, University and community for research and other creative activities. Professional development activities will include becoming involved in other academic duties, such as serving on Center, departmental and university committees appropriate for academic rank. This individual will also be encouraged to engage in professional-related activities on local, state, and national workgroups, committees and technical advisory panels.We seek a researcher with a broad knowledge base and a level of independence, PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience, pharmacology, or a closely related field followed by >3 years of postdoctoral experience.Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:Evidence of knowledge and experience with ability to plan, conduct and supervise assignments related to research projects that investigate mechanisms and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s or vascular cognitive impairment. Evidence of previous experience with rodent models of CNS diseases. Solid record of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Evidence of knowledge and experience with methodological techniques to generate, analyze and interpret scientific data. Ability to develop concepts into hypothesis-driven research. Ability to write manuscripts and grants.Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?YesPreferred Education/Experience:PhD and 4 or more years of postdoctoral experience preferred. Preference will be given to individuals with experience in one of the following areas: mouse neuropathology and behavior, gene expression profiling, pharmacological modulation of glia signaling pathways.
