STV is currently searching for an Entry-Level Engineer or Scientist to join our Water Resources team in Owings Mills, MD or Virginia Beach, VA. Candidates graduating in May 2024 are encouraged to apply. In this role, you will work closely with engineers and project managers on the planning, design and implementation of drainage improvements, stormwater management, erosion & sediment control and eco-restoration projects.This position provides the opportunity to apply innovative techniques for design and construction of storm water systems for transportation and public works clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Diverse and broad-based experiences, both in office and field settings, should be anticipated. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging assignments for public clients.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist with preparing technical reports, narratives, development applications, engineering drawings, submittal documents, and response lettersAnalyze and design storm drainage systems and stormwater management practicesDesign erosion and sediment control practicesPerform Hydrologic and Hydraulic analysesDevelop engineering designs and work effectively with MicroStation and GIS softwareDevelop Erosion and Sediment Control, Drainage, and Stormwater plans and detailsPerform inspection and assessment of constructed stormwater management practicesComplete permit applications for state and local agenciesUtilize general engineering principles and practices dailyDevelop construction cost estimatesPrepare engineering documents for advertisement and constructionCoordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline, within the assigned budget, and with the established qualityConduct field investigations and provide field support as needed for design parameter development, and during construction for oversight and construction quality assurance purposesEvaluate field data; perform calculations; prepare engineering reports, designs, cost estimates, and comprehensive schedules; and develop progress tracking reportsREQUIREMENTS:B.S. / M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering preferred, with a focus on designs involving environmental and civil applications.Entry level position, experience in civil engineering a plusExperience with computer applications and civil engineering design software such as MicroStation, InRoads or ArcGIS in a professional or academic setting.Familiarity with reading construction plans.Relevant experience or coursework in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software preferred.Familiarity with Storm Drain Modeling and Rational Method Hydrologic Calculations or Open Channel & Detention Basin Modeling and Design.Experience researching design standards and permit requirements.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
